If there every truly was a fricken thread amongst all the fricken threads that deserves its place its this one. Surprised it took this long, so incredibly happy Gio is the captain of this team now. Up there in points per game average with the likes of Karlsson and Keith speaks volumes to how great he's been this year, take the injury away and he flirts with 70+ points i think!
I don't think there is any doubt: if Gio goes uninjured this season he's on team Canada and is in the Norris conversation. Probably wouldn't win in, but he's definitely in the talks.
Glad he's our #1 defenceman.

The fact that a player who plays as many minutes as he does on this team is +11 is really impressive. Him and Brodie have been exceptional in the 2014 calendar year for the Flames.

+11 on a team that is -29 in goals for/against differential.
He and Brodie were a combined +10 against the Oilers. That is ridiculous and awesome.
He's got the heart of a lion. Having a captain like him is one of the reasons we will never, ever be as embarrassingly terrible as the Edmonton LOiLers.
He has to be the most improved player in the league this year. I wonder if it's because the Flames decided to anoint him as their number one guy, no longer behind Bouwmeester, Phaneuf, and Regehr. Naming him captain probably helped out as well, whoever recommended that was a genius.
