Colorado is called for tanking because it was obvious 10 games in last year that their coach wasn't getting the players to do anything anymore and they just sat on it and didn't attempt to correct anything ... at all.
Quite a big assumption there with no proof. Maybe they knew it was a shortened season and thought they'd make big changes in the off season as they did and let these guys start fresh. Maybe Patrick Roy is who they wanted so they had to wait until he was done with the Remparts, as they did.

Ristolainen and Zadarov have 1 points each.
I'm still impressed with our luck when I see this. Monahan!

He's saying the Flames got lucky when they drafted such a good player.

Giving Feaster credit for picking Monahan is almost like giving him credit for selecting Stamkos.

So it's lucky when we get a good player and bad drafting when we don't? Is that the double standard we're rocking?

Not a ton of luck involved in that pick IMO. We scouted the players and made a good choice.

I think the "luck" is in how quickly Monahan has become an NHL'er, which I don't think many expected. The pick was the obvious selection, so there's no real luck or skill involved in it imo.

The way I remember it, it was pretty much a no brainer to take Monahan after Lindholm was taken. I wanted Monahan anyways so I guess you could say we got lucky there but it's early to write off Lindholm as the inferior player.

Exactly what has already been said. Monahan was the pretty obvious choice. If he hadn't panned out this good I don't think people would have been saying we should have taken Nurse or Ristolainen. I just feel fortunate that it looks like we got a really great player and don't have to even think about other scenarios.

I do think Monahan was at that point the favorite, but I don't think it was that much of a no-brainer. I think that most teams selecting between Calgary and Dallas will regret not selecting Nichushkin. For me, that was the only player left on the board that I thought was a legitimate elite talent left.

I was favouring Nichushkin over Monahan, but after we picked Poirier (Nichushkin lite without the Russian problem) I was thrilled with Mono.

I think Buffalo is thrilled with Ristolainen. Vancouver and Edmonton though.....

I think Risto and Horvat are both very, very 'solid' picks, don't get me wrong. Buffalo fans can very well make very compelling arguments as to why Ristolainen was a better pick at that spot even. Vancouver did 'ok' in getting Horvat (I rather like him, and was disappointed to see him join the Canucks), but felt that with Nichushkin on board, they could have done much better.

Nurse is the more interesting case. He may turn into an almost franchise-level defencemen. Edmonton may not regret it so much (even though Nichushkin would have filled a very important need more quickly for them - size and skill combination in the top 6). However, Nurse also gives me that feeling that he may end up a bit of a polarizing player - one of those players with a fantastic array of tools, but no toolbox. Will be interesting to see if he can put it all together in Edmonton or not. Just think he was a bit more of a 'gamble' at that spot for a team looking to acquire an elite-level talent. I am not saying that Nurse won't be elite even - just feel there is more question marks as to whether or not he will.

What a beauty of a goal by Girgensons. Guy has all the tools to be a real solid NHL player -- size, skating, skill, toughness, and an ability to score some pretty goals. Loving that pick!

If only Grigorenko could get his crap together...

Who knows what Hertl would have done if he played an entire season.

Then again a rabbit wearing a top hat could score 30 goals with Jumbo Joe as his C.

The rumour at the draft was that the Flames offered on their 1st round draft picks for MacKinnon.

With this season almost done would you trade Monahan, Poirier and Klimchuk for MacKinnon. MacKinnon is clearly the best player among them but I wouldn't make that trade.

I would. MacKinnon is ridiculous.
