Default How is your hometown team doing?

Many of us follow hometown teams of one kind or another outside of the NHL and other than the Flames. I thought it might be interesting to hear how your hometown team is doing.

The Geneseo Ice Knights, my hometown team, are in the DIII NCAA Final Four and face St. Norbert tonight in Lewiston Maine. Great hockey. DIII is populated mostly by former Junior A and NAHL players who have played out their junior careers, have no aspirations for professional hockey, but are having a blast playing four more years of competitive hockey and getting a good education. No bigtime scholarships or special academic treatment for these kids and it is really rewarding watching them re-adapt to school, and mostly succeed, after Juniors.

Anyhow, go Knights!

The Junior B St. Thomas Stars season is over. Pretty good Alumni for a small town with the likes of Joe Thornton, Logan Couture, and Gregory Campbell coming out of that program amongst others.

Hometown team would be the Flames.

Team of current residence would be the Swiss NL-A's Zurich Lions.
Finished the 50-game regular season 20 points (3-2-1-0 point system) clear of second place Fribourg. Currently leading their quarterfinal playoff series against Lausanne 3-2. The team is anchored by former stinkin' Oilers M.A. Bergeron and Robert Nilsson, and coached by former stinkin' Canucks bench boss Marc Crawford.

My favorite team here, SC Bern, finished the season in 9th place, failing to qualify for the playoffs. Former Flame Byron Ritchie didn't have a great season, with only 27 points in 43 games (had 49 in 46 last year).

Interesting to see playoff series played with alternating home and away games due to ease of travel.

The Olds Grizzleys as a 7-seed managed to eliminate the Okotoks Oilers, but were ousted by the Brooks Bandits, a 1-seed.

The Bandits are a really good Junior A team, but IMO have some suspect goaltending.

The Peterborough Petes are in the playoffs after missing 3 straight years. Pretty tough first round matchup vs the Kingston Frontenacs starts tonight.

Pretty good. Not nearly as good as last year (no MacKinnon) but still Drouin and Ehlers are sure a treat to watch.

Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (never liked the name it's too wordy should just be the Eagles) are in the playoffs this year. Had a decent season where they over acheived based on stellar coaching. They are facing one of the Flames' top prospects in the first round of the Q playoffs, Emile Poirier and the Qatineau Olympiques.

Gatineau has gone ice advantage, but it's a 2-3-2 series due to travel, and The Q News website has most of their writers picking Cape Breton to take the series in 6.

Any chance CP could get me a scouting pass for this series?

The Victoria Royals have had their best season ever (100 pts).

They lost 3 in a row to end the season, and though it's gonna be tough to accomplish much in the playoffs vs Kelowna or Portland, it's been a great season nonetheless.

As for my current residence, the closest team is the Coventry Blaze, who finished the season in 6th (out of ten teams) in the British league.

Hometown team: Abbotsford Heat. Basically a lock to make the playoffs. They'll probably get a 4th or 5th seed unless they go on a tear. Glad we're getting back a lot of our star players.

Team I grew up with: Kootenay Ice. They're without one of their best players, Tim Bozon. Not sure how they'll do against the Hitmen. They're up 1-0 in the series.

my sons team (Balckfoot Pee-Wee 5) was eliminated from the Calgary Minor Hockey Association playoffs in 2 straight games.

We are in a tournement this weekend, though, so we have one shot left at glory......

Home town team, the Calgary Flames, have provided one of the most entertaining seasons I can remember in past 4 or 5 seasons.

Current residence team went on a pretty epic downward spiral where they were made a laughingstock of the league and got trolled by a coach and 4th line. Media pundits are calling for heads to roll and fans jumped of the wagon so fast it caused a 3.4 tremor. Franchise is in tough shape with players wanting out and a rapidly aging core locked in long term.

All in all it is absolutely glorious!!!
