The name being legally available and all is one thing, taking all of the hard work of VOLUNTEERS since 2009 or so and trashing them with this display of politics at its worst is quite something else.

They're basically the federal NDP.

Federal NDP proposes policy.

I actually agree. It's shocking that the PC's have gone so far pushing the low-tax/high-spending mantra.
That's exactly the problem with where we have gone in provincial finances, both in the late 80's and again now. We've wasted so much capital on provincial spending that should have (a) instead been saved for future generations and/or (b) financed entirely by taxation. If you want to be the highest spending jurisdiction in Canada, we should at least be taxed like it.
I think the PC's were by far the worst choice in the last election.

 More drive by's
Since you seem to hate the wildrose so much, what would be your preferred path forward?
Would you like to continue racking on debt for future generations to deal with? Or would you prefer a huge hike in taxes to try and afford current spending levels?
How do you anticipate being able to finance future expenditures based upon current spending levels and the growth in such over the past decade?
Which party most closely represents the best path for Alberta going forward?

I think it's because conservative bases, all over North America, have moved even further right since the eighties. Not exactly sure why, but that's definitely been the shift in culture.

I think Alberta should tax its corporate membership significantly higher. I think personal income taxes should be raised. I think the royalty percentage generated by oil and gas development needs to be significantly raised. I think oilsands development should be slowed and staggered significantly. I think election reform should be the top priority for any incoming premier. I think public infrastructure spending should be made the second priority of any incoming premier. I think the premier's office should strongly advocate to albertans the need a staggering increase in education investment. As part of that educational investment, I think the Alberta government should prioritize sustainable energy growth and invest in the technical expertise to bring that growth to Alberta.
Your turn.
Edit: And you can't say the words "waste" or "entitlement".

I am not against higher taxes, but I really don't trust the PC government with ore money. In my opinion if they get a tax increase through they will use the money to buy the next election (raises for public sector and big spending for the rest).
I could get behind a party that wanted to raise taxes and mandate a fixed amount of the royalty revenue into a trust fund.
Unfortunately, the PCs raided the Sustainability fund very shortly after they created it. They also unwrote their own rule about balanced budgets.

I do to, but from all parties. You have to keep your mind open to solutions the WR has, instead of writing everything they say off, out of hand.

Care to buy a Liberal membership**? They're the only party that has suggested that.

My god man,
That's the real drive-by. No one has suggested we should spend spend spend. In this thread, most likely in any thread. In fact, most PC supporters have admitted or agreed that recently their party was spending too much. Also, many agree Alison was taking advantage of her power as Premier when it came to personal spending.
However, what you have labelled as drive-bys from the other side, were for the most part, legitimate concerns about the WRP's lack of real policy, especially in budgeting, where their supporters levy most of their attacks.
The WRP supporters are far guiltier of 'drive-bys' than their counterparts from what I have seen. Are there some both ways? Of course, but you're way off base right here and now. Half the comments were not attacks at the opposition. And most of what you have called drive-bys, have had more substance than your comments.
Secondly, the whole comment that came to this was you gloated that in a thread that was about the sitting Premier stepping down, most people were just attacking the opposition. That's a total move of the goal posts! This thread didn't start about about her stepping down. It was called the Alison Redford Trangressions Thread. It was started by people mad at Alison, mostly WRP supporters. So of course there is going to be debate. Not to mention the spirit of the thread, shown very easily by the title, was meant to ride PC supporters. So how can you possibly think there wouldn't be comments back the other way?

The Liberals have never run a legitimate candidate in my riding.
If they come up with a legitimate candidate I would consider helping with the campaign.
And no, someone who has an Uncle in Grande Prairie that she thought about visiting one time doesn't count in my mind as legitimate.

I'm in BC but have always regarded myself as a Lougheed conservative, which is essentially unrecognizable in the Alberta politics of today.
I have only ever voted for 1 liberal Candidate on either the provincial or federal level.

To me increased taxes isn't as much a boogey man as its become a platform of lazy government. Lets just raise taxes to pay for this stuff, and they keep pushing it up and up. Taxes are in their nature more harmful to the low and middle income then the high income earner, and the high income earner can fold up shop at any time and leave.
Why is it lazy government, because the government doesn't believe in monitored effective spending, they just throw money at the problem, and then keep throwing more at the problem.
If the government came out tomorrow and said we are way over staffed in management at xyz or we bought several thousand lap tops that we never used, so lets fix these problems and then if need be raised taxes, then fine.
Instead its the argument of wasteful spending solved by increased taxation that bugs me.
Look we know that people need to pay their share for services, nobody argues it, but if government programs were like cars. The government would basically build a 4 stroke engine car that gets 2 miles to the gallon, breaks down every 10 kms as ugly as sin and has no passenger or cargo seating and they'd sell it for a quarter million bucks and we'd have no choice but to buy it.
Governments have to be stronger guardians of the public purse, not merely agents that keep throwing coins into it.

I don't think they're a boogeyman in Alberta so much as we question their need. Highest revenue in ages and yet we still have a deficit, highest per capita health care spending in the country and yet still some of the longest waiting times, etc.
There are clear inefficiencies in how things are operated in this province. I think we'd rather fix those inefficiencies than just throw more money at the problem. If we've fixed them and are STILL running a deficit, then I don't think Albertans would have any problem at all increasing taxes.
