Is it Stephen Harper's charisma?
This thread is about Allison Redford and her problems, the PC government and their problems, and the PC party and its problems.

Last I looked Stephen Harper wasn't involved in any of the above.

If you wish to complain about Mr Harper, I suggest you start another thread.

What if we were complaining about the number of sick days he takes, is that OK?

If you're NDP inclined, then you probably won't find a ton of joy in Wildrose. And honestly, yes, the social conservatives are still there. Wildrose is the party farthest to the right, and that is where they will gravitate. However, the level of support the party enjoys ensures that they are marginalized. If the 46% polling support were to hold up in an election, it would be an indication that the party has captured a large percentage of moderates. It would also put the party pretty solidly where the Klein-era PCs were back in 1993.

The challenge for any leader, of course, is managing the extremes and ensuring they don't cause waves. Smith failed at this in 2012, and I strongly suspect the candidate nominations will reflect this for 2016.

Smith often championed the idea of allowing party members to speak their minds more freely back then. It's good in theory, since it never looks good when a leader starts muzzling their underlings (right Stephen?). But that was a practical example of why it can be bad. Smith allowed herself to get caught in a no-win situation there as she had to either go back on her free speech policy or she could state her disagreement without condemnation and try to absorb whatever fallout occurred. She chose the latter and paid for it.

"Reasonable speech" is not free speech. But you are right, of course. Party politics requires a consistent message from all members. People that rock the boat lose elections. IMO, it mostly came down to being a young party with inexperienced idealists. By 2016 though, they will be more seasoned, should be able to draw more moderate candidates from a wider base of support and will have up to 17 returning MLAs with at least four years of experience.

Exactly. 'Well I don't agree with helping the cities with their new arenas, that's not what we should be doing as a provincial government,' fine.

'Well I think God hates gays, and that's just my opinion,' not so fine.

She was pretty active on Twitter last night but I don't think she is coming back to CP.

I am not trying to pick on you, but it is the PC party.
The Progressive Conservative Party should not be confused with the Conservative Party. One is provincial and the other federal.

This just really bugs me. At the last provincial election I spoke to several people who said they were voting PC because they liked Stephen Harper and didn't want to vote against him.

It wasn't really intended to be a shot at all. Its just that the thread has really hit on so many topics, what's one more derailment? We started out with Alison's transgressions, hit healthcare, sick days and work benefits and kept rolling right into free speech. If we could get someone to bring up abortion or gun control we'd pretty much hit every divisive topic in one fell swoop!

Looking back I still can't believe it's the $45K SA trip that brought Redford down. I always thought it would be the huge pile of debt she amasses that'll be her downfall in 2016.

The snap decision of not hitchiking on Harper's plane may not even register on her mind at that time. But I believe had she not taken the last first class flight back from SA she'll stil be the premier. And now she will think about that moments for a long time to come.

The life lesson I learned from this is take care of the little things and the big things will take care of themselves.

Wow was Rerun going for the record of most posts turned into "nm" in a thread ever?

Rerun has to learn to ignore those people on here who only purpose in posting is to provoke a fight, by making comments that contribute nothing to the thread discussion.

1. You derailed and got on a rant about sick days.
2. You didn't like the fact that people didn't agree with you, nothing I've seen seemed to be an attempt to provoke you.
3. You now the one trying to police the thread to stay on topic.

See anything wrong with that?

Also, you talk about entitlement, and then request a moderator go back and purge quotes of your rant?

Rerun derails thread, complains later when others don't stay on point. Ironic, to say the least. Beyond that I'd prefer you not go to the "nm" card. It's pretty weak really. Stand behind what you say (and believe) or don't say it. But to post it and then go "nm" when it gets strong negative reaction or it gets mocked is pretty lame.

But like saying Slava makes a drive by that is "beneath him". Well no, you derailed the thread towards government employee sick days. Slava made a funny point, but a fair one. You complain about government sick days, but the CPC has done nothing, at all, about this. And as they have a majority, and as you are a supreme CPC supporter, you should demand they do something about it. But as the worst political homer on this site, you will always conveniently ignore all CPC/WR flaws and hammer the Liberals or whoever for those exact same flaws.

Very surprising news on one hand, but not on the other. the PC party has been on a downard spiral for a while with the flights just likely being the tip of the corruption iceberg. Alot of people have gotten rich with that PC Hierarchy similar to Social credit. It would probably take an embarrassing loss like the SoCred one to change the party and by that time it would be to late.

I really dont know who to vote for. I dont like either frontrunners and so I dont want either to get a majority so I will probably vote WR like I did in the last election to try to force a minority.

Its just to bad the 2 other parties are just complete and utter farces unwilling to deviate from the downtown Toronto/Vancouver mothership agenda.

I think what killed her was the way she handled the Mandella flight refusing to pay it back. Everything else was just filler.

I do like how she left though, saw the tide turning with the old balls who are in the PC hierarchy and decided to say fk it and leave.

I just really hope the unionized peons dont believe the next batch of promises from whoever is the PC leader in the next election. But knowing how they think (my mother is with AUPE) when Santa-nextPremier comes promising to buy votes I am sure they will go along like cows to the slaughter and blindly vote for them instead of thinking long term.

It's quite telling that in a thread about the sitting Premier resigning due to scandal the majority of posts are instead attacking the opposition or people who support them.

Clearly the Wildrose have been very effective in defining the current debate and focusing on the culture of entitlement rooted so very deeply in the PC party. Let's hope they can continue to experience such high polling numbers into the next couple years by bringing to light how terrible the current government really is.
