If you were going to take someones opinion on it though, maybe a guy who is an NHL-calibre goalie coach would have a good one though, right?

I think Berra will probably start to do a lot better over there, primarily because of the team in front of him though.

Berra is going to get lit up. The Avalanche defense is much worse than even the Flames.

Berra actually had a number of great starts here where he got zilch for goal support (remember our shutout streak?). He did give up a soft goal here and there but frankly that is what backups do. With the greater goal support in COL he should look a lot better there.

It's a win-win trade IMO. We dealt him for good value and COL gets a guy who they should be able to mold into a good backup.

I think Berra's not a bad goalie at all. He's pretty damn good in OT for sure. If the Flames played like they're doing now, I think Berra could've had more wins under his belt. He's a bit unpolished as a butterfly goalie, but from the looks of him as a Flames, I think he's a better goalie than Ramo. With Roy and Giguere being the two best butterfly goalies, I think Berra can use his size and learn a few things from those two. He may become an elite goalie, but the Flames better make good use of that 2nd round pick. Just hope the Flames come out on top of the trade like they usually do with the Avs.

Ortio is already a better goalie than Berra. And this is his first full season in NA as well.

I still don't see any reason why the Avs would trade a 2nd rounder for Berra and then sign him to a 1.5M/year contract just because he has potential to be a good backup.

Proven backups were available for 3rd and 4th round picks at the deadline and these goalies could easily be signed for around 1.5M in the off season.

He was responsible for at least 3 goals especially the OT winner. Colorado got hosed.

The best way to evaluate trades is after one game.

Or how they've played in their entire short NHL career.

Berra is garbage. Has no glove hand. Weak lateral movement and constantly loses his net.

Great trade for the Flames.

It's too early to tell. I don't think any team should be careless with trading picks but I do think certain teams have accumulated enough young talent over years of high draft picks that they can afford to take a bigger gamble with a second round pick. Berra is an example of such a gamble and Colorado is one of those teams that has lots of good young talent already so that giving up that 2nd round pick doesn't hurt them as much as other teams.

All that needs to happen now is to pick up a Marc-Edward Vlasic in the draft. Everyone's a winner.
