Most important thing I got out of watching that conference is that they are diverting all resources to this. And here we go....

"Crew on @USNavy P-8 spotter tell @WrightUps "significant radar returns" coming from site where possible #MH370 objects spotted."

@WrightUps is probably a good person to follow on Twitter. He is on board the P-8.

This sucks, I was hoping it had been hijacked and landed and the people were safe.

I think if it was hijacked, and it's been 12 days, and the plane landed, those people are dead.

yeah as bad as it sounds, finding the plane in the ocean at this point is the best scenario,

Yeah that scenario is already so implausible, to hope the hijackers are keeping 200+ people all warm and toasty, feeding them, and have them so brainwashed that none will try to escape and make outside contact...

Should know definitively within 2-3 hours, especially once these other ships arrive and can take a closer look.

The P-8 seems to have picked up something on radar for sure, but now it's a matter of visual identification.

I sure hope this is it and these families can have some closure.

An interesting article however on CNN regarding the area these pieces have allegedly been located:

http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/20/world/...html?hpt=hp_t1

Quote:
"This is an area out of normal shipping lanes, out of any commercial flight patterns, with few fishing boats, and there are no islands," the official said.

Young cautioned the images may not be from the plane. There can be other debris out there, from ships, for example.

The objects were seen in the heart of what is known as the Indian Ocean Gyre. There is little to no oceanic current movement in the region and the area is notorious for trapping debris. It's one of the five major gyres in the world's oceans and is known to contain a "garbage patch."

"It is probably the best lead we have right now," Young said. "But we need to get there, find them, see them, assess them to know whether it's really meaningful or not."

The visibility in the area is poor, Young cautioned. "The weather is not playing the game with us," he said.

The P-8 found nothing and has returned to Perth to refuel.

It is in this article part way down and this tweet was sent by NBC:

NBC News ‏@NBCNews 3:11 AM
U.S. Navy aircraft searching for the possible surface objects spotted by an Australian satellite has "not confirmed" any sighting of...

Heard an interview this morning with a journo who was on the P8 flight, confirmed there was nothing there, they found a freighter in the area, but nothing else.

I think it's pretty obvious the pilot was on a mission to kill penguins. I've heard through my various unnamed, nonimaginary sources that some penguins are actively developing a weapon of mass destruction that could be used against American fishing forces near the Weddell Sea. We should treat this pilot as a hero.

Given how many many blunders have been made and false hopes raised, it is hard to think the Australian PM would personally deliver this info if there wasn't very credible evidence that this was it... I am sure there will be more searching in this area tomorrow. If it turn's out to be nothing, then I guess the legacy of this situation just grows.

^^^ I think the "false hope being raised" is more everyone assuming that it's the missing plane every time someone goes to inspect something that was observed on satellite.

People want to know what's happening, they keep people aware and then people jump to conclusions.

Malaysian govt handles this how corrpt govts do. By releasing information, wild speculation, and accusation to make themselves seem important.

1 person from the airline and 1 person from the govt should have been the only ones talking to the media. Everything else should be proof of just how corrupt some governments are and how the facebook/twitter generation has conditioned people to blindly follow what some people are saying rather than looking at the facts and only the facts themselves. To release the information about the stolen passports before anything is known or to accuse the pilot of being a terrorist because he doesnt vote for the majority dictatorship just give people hope when there is/was likely none to begin with and it should have never been publically released or acknowledged.

I understand its difficult to find any news outlet these days that just provides the facts with clear labels on what is fact and what is speculation and or opinion.

Agreed, the way news is reported (and I use that term loosely), there is no accountability and everyone with a twitter account is deemed a source/reporter.

In my OP, I was only referring to certain people jumping to conclusions when something is reported, but before anything being confirmed by a credible source.

Mind you, these days, it's hard to tell the difference between CNN and TMZ.

I find this theory credible. Because it requires the fewest assumptions like what Occam's razor demands.

Am I the only one who thought of these guys when I saw that the plane was heading to the south pole, knowing we were dealing with a possible hijack?
