Probably a training exercise based around a domestic disaster or attack. I think they do them once a year.

All I know is it was 5 Chinook's and they landed at the Million Air FBO at the airport.
Also most likely US Army.
Edit: More info, they are departing tomorrow morning and came from Fairbanks, AK.

That seems like a really far helicopter ride (maybe it's just me).

Saw a similar scene years ago in Kelowna. Explanation was helicopters going to Alaska. They weren't Chinooks, though, I think they were Blackhawks.

Yeah, I did a ride in a Chinook from Calgary to Wainwright and those things aren't built for comfort.

I replied to someone on twitter this morning that was wondering what they were when they left, just got this reply:

Thanks. I now consider myself lucky to have seen them but at the time I was nervous. So was the driver at the lights beside me.
Ugh, LIVE IN FEAR. It could have been Red Dawn happening. Good thing I cleared that up for them.

You never know, the idea that the Russians may be coming has never been more plausible. There are a lot of Ukrainians in Edmonton, they may be in danger.
Can Russia annex Edmonton? Would we even want to stop them if they tried?

I do believe we'd support Russia in any bid to annex Edmonton.
