Default Fastest skaters?

If the flames were to have a skills competition, who would be the fastest? McGrattan can really move but has the turning circle of a cruise ship so probably not him.

Byron? Glencross?

Byron or Brodie I think... Did the flames have a skills competition this year? They usually do.

As long as Emile "Nitro" Poirier is not on the Flames roster it's Byron for sure.

This is such an important element to the flames future... If the flames keep this identity of a hard-working team with a never-quit mentality and include the speed of guys like poirier, Byron, Brodie, giordano, colborne, and glencross... This rebuild will go faster than expected. No pun intended.

The hard working identity and no quit nature was the Flames of 10 years ago...its good to see its back. Hopefully they do not go on a cinderella run in a couple of years from now and think they are better than they truly are and forget that hard work matters.

Close to the All-Star break but that was 'replaced' with the Olympics this year. So nope, unless I missed it.

Short-distance (say goal to blue line): TJ Brodie
Mid-distance (blue line to blue line): TJ Galiardi
Long-distance (full-lap): Paul Byron

My guesses.

Goal line to blue line is a longer distance than blue line to blue line.

the speed lineup:

Glencross - Byron - Galiardi
Brodie - Russell

For straight-out speed, Poirier is on his way

For quickness, Johnny Hockey is on his way

I think it has to be Paul Byron. 2nd fastest forward is probably Galiardi.
For D-men I would have to say Brodie and Russel are our fastest. I would give the slight edge to Brodie because his skating technique is probably the best on the Flames imo.

I think Backlund is a really good skater. This season he has been taking the puck from his own net and crossing the opponents blue line regularly in one rush, usually out-skating 2-3 players. Its amazing what a bit of confidence can do - even for skating.

Byron's first couple of strides are explosive - That's how he wins a lot of loose pucks. His straight line speed looks pretty good too - esp on that shorty against Buffalo.

Brodie looks real smooth when he skates.

Glencross has got some wheels too but haven't seen too much of that form this year.

Yes in Edmonton. I remember because my Oil fan buddy was bragging about it...

That said, to answer the question, Glencross would be my guess with Byron a close second.
