So he has twice as many goals as Clarkson does who the leafs signed long term for 5.25 / year and they give us Colborne for a 4th round pick.

Huge win.

No, the condition is if he gets 10 goals or 30 points AND we make the playoffs so i'd say we're pretty safe that pick is staying a 4th

If he scores 10 goals or 35 points, and we make the playoffs. Two of those three things ain't happening. The 10 goals may though.

He's much more involved in the play and actually uses his size to advantage when on the wing compared to centre.

With his shift to the wing I think the ceiling has improved for Colborne. The Flames want him to add muscle in the offseason. A bigger, stronger Colborne helps the team address some size issues on the wing

Burke will definitely want to keep him because of his size. I really like Colborne's game ever since he's been moved to the wing, I would love for him to stay long term, and I think he really likes it here.

he's really shaping into a good hockey player at the NHL level. He's got the hands, but he's learning how to use his size to his advantage along the boards, and also love seeing him engage physically (an example last night was seeing him pushing and shoving the sabre who got a late hit in on giordano after an offside call).

Yap, Colborne is looking better and better.
Most definitely he is a better winger than center.
His improvement has been excellent and clearly he will be a big part of the future.
No way, Burke lets him go, I bet he feels vindicated.

With young players (yes, 24 is young) you look for progression and his progression this year has been very impressive - especially once moved to the wing.

The regular ice-time has really given him an opportunity to blossom. Now he can work on his strength over the summer and come back next year with renewed confidence.

Already a great trade, and if he can take it to the next level, it's absolute gem of a deal.

to be fair, i think clarkson's garbage contract and colborne trade were completely mutually exclusive events. Colborne didn't fit in on their depth chart so getting a 4th is about fair value given what he had proven to date (panthers gave us Knight for the same price i believe).

Now the fun part to talk about is clarkson. what the heck was nonis thinking? it was a laughable contract when it first happened, and his first year has proven just how bad of a move this was by the leafs.

The buyout of Grabovski is the event that is tied to the Clarkson signing IMO, which is even more baffling as he was and still is putting up a decent amount of points.

What makes it even sweeter is that this is his first full-time season in the NHL - and he's been shifted to wing, a position he isn't really used to. Not only is he taking to it like a fish to water, the improvement he's shown has been incredible to the point where he's getting top 6 duty.

Joe still has a lot of room to grow as a player (and physically, damn those stork legs) so it'll be very intriguing to watch his progression season by season considering the leaps he's made in the last two months.

I think the emergence of kadri/bozak as the leafs top 2 line centers, left no place for grabovski on the leafs depth chart. both grabovski/colborne were looked at as 'top6 or out of the lineup' type guys, as they wanted a stronger/defensive type guy as their 3rd line center (ie. bolland).

The clarkson move to me was a knee-jerk/emotional reaction to losing out to the big bad bruins and the leafs feeling that getting the only available gritty powerforward would help them line up against the bruins better this year.

A little OT, but credit to Hartley. A LOT of players are playing much better with him rather than Sutter. He's a good coach, he seems to be able to get the most out of his players. Including Colborne.
