I don't think Burke pulls rank on Hartley often but I wouldn't be surprised if Bob is "encouraged" to have Agostino in the lineup tomorrow.

If I remember correctly, another poster pointed out that if his ELC is effective when he is 22, it is only a 2 year ELC, whereas if it is effective when he is 21, it is 3 years. No benefit to waiting, may as well put your money where your mouth is and give the guy a shot. Sends a positive message to any other college guys about to finish their seasons...

He signed a two year contract so he ends up using his first year this year.

The guy could have been a free agent in a few months. No need to screw around, it's not like his second contract is going to be worth millions of dollars anyways.

He was probably correcting me but the Dev camp is also what I should have said.

He has good speed & plays well in all zones. Great motor. Reads plays very well & gets in all the best positions to make the right plays. To me he is a lot like Glencross, but seems to think the game a lot better, and rarely takes a shift off. Doesn't have the deadly shot that Glencross owns, but doesn't make as many stupid plays either. He was essential to Yale & their national championship last season.
He looks like a great 3rd liner, but he could put up some points in his career. I'd like to see him on a line with a veteran like Stajan & with Lance Bouma.

I think the closest comparable to Agostino is Glencross. Sure sounds like they play the same type of game. That is probably Agostino's ceiling (imo), and that is a heck of a player to be getting if he develops that far. Good skater, tenacious forechecker, solid 2-way play - those are all attributes of Glencross' game. Not saying he will become the next Glencross - just as a comparable to Agostino's ceiling - though Agostino apparently has a high hockey IQ as well, and he may end up breaking through that ceiling. Who knows? He is definitely the kind of depth player that teams need to help become successful.

Agostino surprised how quickly the Flames wanted him to report. Now projects Nashville as his first game:

Quote:
The past 48 hours have been a blur for Kenny Agostino. Yale was eliminated Saturday night, he spent Sunday morning negotiating with the Calgary Flames and that afternoon, he got a real shocker -- word the team wanted him to report straight to the NHL. He spent today in transit, arriving in Calgary only a couple of hours ago, tired, hungry and still in awe of what's happened.
"The turnaround was so quick," Agostino said. "When I received the news that I'd be going off to Calgary, I can't even describe the feeling. I'm just excited for whatever opportunity presents itself and plan to keep my eyes and ears open for as long as I'm here."
Agostino isn't quite sure what's in store yet. He'll know more after meeting with Flames officials prior to tomorrow's pregame morning skate. As of now, he says doesn't know if he'll dress for Tuesday night's game with Buffalo, only because everything has happened so fast. At the moment, Friday against Nashville looks like it'll be his debut.

It doesn't look like he is playing tonight against Buffalo. Stajan is back and Flames did not send Hanowski back to Abby yet. I am not going to pretend I know Agostino because I have never seen him play yet. I am so excited to see how this guy can help us rebuild.

Confirmation of what was discussed earlier on in the thread:
@DarrenHaynes_CP: I have confirmed with Flames Hockey Ops that indeed, Kenny Agostino CANNOT be assigned to the AHL this season and will remain with Calgary.
@DarrenHaynes_CP: As Agostino signed a contract that includes 2013-14 season, he would have needed to have been assigned to AHL prior to NHL trade deadline.
@DarrenHaynes_CP: Players who sign now and then play in AHL, it's because they sign contract that begins next year and sign a tryout to play in AHL this year.
@DarrenHaynes_CP: Even after Flames season ends, Agostino (and any other college kids that sign a contract beginning in 2013-14) can't be sent to Abbotsford.

Seems like he's with the Flames for the rest of the year.

did you seriously just try to beat sureLoss?
It'll be nice to see how he works out for the Flames, it's too bad he couldn't be eased into the NHL and play the sabres tonight.

Seems like a rule that was put in place to not let non-playoff team's stack up their AHL affiliates but this was probably a consequence they didn't consider.

He will be eligible to play in 12 games this season. That is amazing experience immediately after college.
So Agostino will be a RFA after next season?

I think it's just a matter of the player wanting his signing bonus for this year now and next years also in a couple of months.
He signed for 900,000 same as Hanowski. Hanowski got 90,000 signing bonus for each of his two years so I'd guess Agostino got the same. So Agostino gets $180,000 plus his 12 game salary, another $130,000 for a total of $310,000. Not bad for playing 12 games.

In part, although I imagine another part is the players not wanting non-playoff teams sending waiver exempt guys down (and consequently only get the AHL level salary).
