Default "Hello Calgary" on This American Life

I was intrigued to learn that This American Life, one of my favorite podcasts, had a little blurb on Hello Calgary, the song a lot of us remember and love from our childhoods. And then I listened to it...

http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radi...like-home#play

Don't listen to this if you want to keep your innocence.

I second the last sentence. Do not listen unless you want your memory raped over and over AND OVER.

Well I didn't know it was over 100, I thought there was a dozen to a couple dozen.

Yeah I've always known this, but felt like I needed to keep it a secret.

They even did it in Australia:

Someone posted these on this very forum a couple years back, not all of them, but at least the Milwaukee one.

I would have paid a lot to see Table's reaction on his commute this morning as his childhood is smashed into pieces by This American Life. Usually such a bright spot to start the week too.

I'm in the right age group to remeber that song well from my childhood. That said, I remeber it well, but I'm not sure I had the same connection to it as it being a source of pride for the city. I always viewed it as a catchy gingle that 2&7 played to advertise it's station between programs. I was pretty young in the 80's too, and even back then I think I caught on to it being an advertisement for a TV station, not some sort of "city anthem" as it's being portrayed, or maybe that was just me.

The same lady sings a few of the songs it sounds like (Rochester and Calgary at least), so probably not.

EDIT: I did some research. The lady who sings the "Hello News" song is Florence Warner. She sang Hello Maine, Hello Wichita, Hello Houston, Hello Indiana, Hello Utah, Hello Nashville (also with the Nashville Symphony), Hello Calgary, and many more.

You wonder if the TV stations who bought these jingles knew just how widespread they'd become?

This is like being married to your sweet, innocent and hot wife for 10 years and then finding out she was the town pump back in high school.

Oh man, I gotta side beside the Hello Calgary and Hello Melbourne ones for my Aussie buddies.

The funny thing is it looks like the ran at pretty much the exact same times (year wise)! We had the same childhood memories and didn't even know it!
