I was intrigued to learn that This American Life, one of my favorite podcasts, had a little blurb on Hello Calgary, the song a lot of us remember and love from our childhoods. And then I listened to it...
I would have paid a lot to see Table's reaction on his commute this morning as his childhood is smashed into pieces by This American Life. Usually such a bright spot to start the week too.

I'm in the right age group to remeber that song well from my childhood. That said, I remeber it well, but I'm not sure I had the same connection to it as it being a source of pride for the city. I always viewed it as a catchy gingle that 2&7 played to advertise it's station between programs. I was pretty young in the 80's too, and even back then I think I caught on to it being an advertisement for a TV station, not some sort of "city anthem" as it's being portrayed, or maybe that was just me.
did former Flames anthem singer, Susan Smith sing Hello Calgary?
The same lady sings a few of the songs it sounds like (Rochester and Calgary at least), so probably not.
EDIT: I did some research. The lady who sings the "Hello News" song is Florence Warner. She sang Hello Maine, Hello Wichita, Hello Houston, Hello Indiana, Hello Utah, Hello Nashville (also with the Nashville Symphony), Hello Calgary, and many more.
