No kidding is the GUI a joke. These ported menus just don't work on a PC. If I have the opportunity to use a mouse.. drag & drop, drop down menus, and scrolling should be POSSIBLE!! I don't want to edit my lines in 'boxes' at a time!!
Honestly I think those guys have problems realizing what it is they have to rebuild from scratch and what it is they can leave. The Menus are fine!! Notice how Madden generally keeps their PC menu functionality and console menu functionality apart.
NHL needs to do that. Meanwhile it is their AI that needs to be rebuilt. Stop building on top of an already mediocre NHL03 engine, and just do it right.. once! NHL04 was a good build on top of the NHL03 engine, and then they just screw it up when "tweaking" for 05.
Anyways hopefully this Authenticity that Littman speaks of is about gameplay simulation and not, proper brand names, and jersey tucks on individual players.

the skill stick is whack. Iginla doesnt do any of those moves in real life. Spinning around and shooting and all those goofy moves.

I never denied that... but you're making it sound like you can't navigate menu's with ease. I don't have an issue at all with the menu's. The Edit lines could be a hell of alot better though, that's all I have an issue with.

I was thinking of something along the lines of having some special teams practice modes, where you practice pp's, pk's and shootouts. That'd be cool. Maybe defensive zone coverage enhancements. Preferably keep Create a Player and EA Sports Free for All.
The one thing though that really that I hope can work is see if there's a way to make it easier to sustain pressure.

In the nextgen versions of 07, you'll be able to skate around in a practice arena while your game loads up. Much like Fifa06 for xbobx360. Actually now that I think of it almost all of the new EA Sports games will have that feature. Unfortunatly as far as I know it's only you in the rink, so you're slightly limited as to what you can practice.

Yeah it's just too bad FIFA blew hard for 360. Actually all of EA's next gen games were terrible. The worst part about is that you couldn't play the current gen games on the 360. That reminds me, tell those buggers to quit leaving out features from the next gen games that included in the current gen.

Yea, they went overboard with graphics and had to skimp on the features because they didn't have the memory for them in the end. I think that's getting changed in the 07 games though.

Honestly, the graphics don't have to be that great. 04-05 graphics were already good enough. I'd rather they have some more extra features than "better" graphics.

Hell, put it on a DVD-ROM and incorporate great graphics and features.
Many games are going this route.

big time, this is the key. The game needs to have more loose puck time. I'm sick of cpu d-men blocking shots and instantly having control of the puck.
oh, biggest pet peave of the games of all: the puck, or goalie, magically moving. I can't stand the goalie being able to get a puck on to the front of his stick when the puck is trickling in behind him.
Really, the more I think about the EA NHL series, the more mad I get. The series has been really slow at getting better.

One problem with putting it on DVD is you'll get people who are too cheap to get a DVD drive even though you can get them pretty cheap now.
Gearbox ran into this problem with Brothers In Arms. Too many people from North America bitched about it being only in DVD format so for Earned In Blood they released the North America version in CDs and the European version in DVD since they got very little complaints from Europe about it.

Good point, but if someone in this day and age doesn't have a $45.95 DVD/RW burner or even just a ROM $29.95, they shouldn't be allowed to own or operate a PC.

If it was North America that was polled, I would believe it. The US is techincally behind Canada. Something like 50% of Americans with internet still use dial up.

Exactly, so why should EA cater to Americans when Canadian sales of the NHL series is far greater per capita. Plus the head quarters is in Canada, say yes to DVD-ROM!!!

Says that they are looking for more realism and building the Goalies AI from scratch.

I would like to see the game give a choice of wearing either home or away retro jersey's, rather than having all teams preset to only having one kind home or away.

I've been skimming this thread as I'm bored, I don't really play video games anymore.
However I was wondering what it would take to put actual prospects into the game? Someone mentioned it might be an NHLPA thing.
With scouting services how they are today, we have a pretty good idea of the next 2 years for the NHL entry draft, and early indicators for the next 4-5 years.
Jordan, what would it take to put Johnson, Towes, and Kessel in this year's game? Also what would it take to put currently Major Junior, NCAA, and Euroleague juniors in the game?
Would it be possible to have the CHL teams in it as well? Have NHL the main focus, but if you wanted to play as the QMJHL, OHL, WHL, or NCAA leagues? I'm just curious as to what it would take - I'm sure it'd be a lot more man power to get those players produced.
