I was thinking about this last night. The players have rallied to support the Stajans and it's because of the players and the team this site exists. The team and the players by extension are part of the community as this forum is.
As a result this event, and other similar events noted in the thread, provide us with an opportunity to do something good. I noticed the Alberta Children's Hospital has a foundation and you can donate in memoriam. I think it would be a fitting gesture if we collected what we could in the name of Emerson and others who passed so early. There looks to be an online donation page which can be setup. I'm willing to get it organized tonight if we think this is something we can get behind (and Bingo is willing to lend the CP name to).

This is as good a time as any for a first post.
Count me in for donating in honour of Emerson. Would be a great way for us to show the Stajans that the fans are here to support them. Thanks for organizing!

My brother went through this last year, and I still can't wrap my head around how he deals with it. I'd be a friggin train wreck. I'm with FF, lets start a CP donation pledge!

This was heartbreaking news. I never know how to say or express my condolences because the words just don't seem to offer any comfort. Ironically, I have buried my fair share of people, and somebody to talk to and vent with was often the best medicine, when in the most painful and deepest stage of grieving.
Anyhow... I am down for making a pledge in CP's name. That is a great idea.

This thread rips open old wounds, I am heartbroken for the Matt and Katie. Unfortunately I can say I do know what they are going through and are feeling.
Many people here know that I lost my daughter May 4, 2009 due to a placenta abruption during her delivery. It is hands down the worst day of my life, you DO NOT get over something like this, time helps but there isn't a day that I don't think about my baby girl.
Then 2 years later, March 18, 2011 we lost a baby boy at (4.5 months into the pregnancy). The unfathomable happened and I relived the worst day of my life.
A week from today we will celebrate my son's birthday as we do every year for my daughter as well. Also, every October 15th is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day and we join a Walk to Remember at our local children's hospital for both of our lost children.
Since those two tragedies I have welcomed my daughter Fiona (Dec 2012) to join my son Gabriel (7 yrs old) as my two surviving kids. These two are my world and I treasure every day with them.
I wish Matt & Katie all the best in their lifelong battle with this tragedy. It is a complete and forever change, they are now unfortunately different people from just a few days ago.
Myself and my wife send our deepest condolences to the whole Stajan family.

Donations in honour of Emerson Stajan
A number of people have expressed interest in making a donation in honour of Emerson.
We've learned the Calgary Flames are supporting Katie and Matthew by managing donations through the Flames Foundation for Life. The dollars raised will support the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Foothills Hospital or the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.
You can send your donation:
BY MAIL:
Flames Foundation for Life
Scotiabank Saddledome
PO Box 1540, Station M,
Calgary AB T2P 3B9
BY GOING ONLINE
Go to www.calgaryflames.com/foundation and click “DONATE NOW.”
** Include with your donation (mail or online) that it's being made in honour of Emerson Stajan and where you want your gift to go - either the NICU or the Children’s Hospital.
Thank you.

Thanks for posting the source as opposed to the Twitter hacks who post only the quote and try to make it sound like the statement came directly from them and looking for retweets.

He's a hockey player. I'm sure his family support system is very good. It doesn't surprise me in the least that he wants to get back it.

My son spent his first week in the Rockiview NICU.
I was blown away by the level of care shown by the people that worked there.
Truly is a great cause to donate to.
