It's all about when you go, I suppose. My family and I go at times when it is less busy and I honestly do not notice any meaningful difference between Superstore and any of the other supermarkets, aside from the price.

At this point, I can't imagine shopping elsewhere. I think it would be generous (to Safeway, Co-Op and the like) to say that you pay 10% more for your groceries at those stores. My family spends about $10,000 a year on groceries. That would mean I would have to expect to spend at least $1000 a year extra on groceries if I shopped elsewhere.

To me, the math became very clear when I changed the scenario like this: if groceries were equal in price at all stores, but you had to pay a $1000 annual fee to shop at any of the more expensive supermarkets, would I pay the fee for the experience? Absolutely not.

I've found that Superstore is really slipping in the past few years.

There are times that almost entire shelves are empty or very low stock. Maybe they should be offering a few more hours to their employees....

Me and the GF shop everywhere she likes superstore cause its so close to us(But so are five other shopping stores)and its cheap.I think its just the one close to me that is the problem most off the time.

You're pretty much bang on it is about 10% on regular priced items.

It becomes a lot less though if you cherry pick specials, in fact, you can further reduce the price by another 10-15% if you cherry picked using all 5 of the major grocery stores (Walmart, RCSS, Safeway/Sobeys, Costco and Co-op).

I guess the better question is, why aren't you doing that?

I have a free hour and a half on Saturday to do the shopping, and Superstore is conveniently close because we're down by the Center St. one. I think the problem is a lack of efficiency at the tills. Maybe its training of the staff or PITA customers, but in contrast to Costco, which seems to have higher customer to till ratios than Superstore we seem to get through almost faster... Maybe Costco customers are prepared with their cards amd payment already. Like going to Costco is more of a planned undertaking than dropping by Superstore for the people who go.

Costco is faster because people have less items. Instead of 4 1lb packs of ground beef you get 5lbs. Instead of buying 6 cans of soup you get 1 case of twelve. Bread is packed in multi loaf bags. Each item is large sized so if you just shop at costco the number of items you og through in a week is also less. Compared with superstore where the bulk food section might have 12 different kinds of peanuts. So even with cashiers of equal skill and customers of equal intelligence Costco would be faster.

I have leays found costco to be the worst in terms of line ups and parking, though I used to go to the heritage one which is awful. Okotoks is far nicer but generally I perfer superstore.

Superstore price matches items frequently, so I don't really feel as though I am missing out on any huge specials by not doing as you've described. I'm not going to lie and say that I've done any in-depth analysis, but I am comfortable with the decisions I've made regarding grocery shopping. At the same time, I'm also not going to fault anyone for making decisions different from my own.

i'm not sure if it's the same in calgary, but here in kelowna they have a 'universal dress code' for pubs and clubs... no gang 'colours' - so you can't come into a pub (or club) with a biker vest on, or a cap or bandanna or anything like that. it even goes so far that tattoos must be covered if they have any sort of gang affiliation.

other than what i've mentioned, i do a agree that a dress code at a pub would be unexpected

There are so many better choices. Sorry, I just can't step a foot in SS. Just an awful place to shop IMO.

My wife and I shop around for good deals. We normally, on the weekend, go to several places. Some have better meat prices. Some have better produce prices. Others better pricing on canned/packaged goods and yet even others for supplies like deodorant, etc.

On any given Saturday/Sunday we shop at:

Save On Foods
Safeway
H&W Produce
Sobey's
Walmart
London Drugs

All of which I would rather go to than SS. I can't stand the layout, the people who shop there and just the general feel of the store. We save a lot of money going and getting various things at the above stores. Anyone who just purchases at one place is not going to save money and get the best prices these days unfortunately.

Walmart has become our go to, but I get a lot of meat at Safeway instead

I think you'd lose all your savings by how much you spend on gas traveling to all those places...unless you have a super effecient car and close distances?

For me,well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday, we're going to go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, & Beyond, I don't know, I don't know if we'll have enough time.

Same. Even with the sales at most places, you simply cannot beat Wal-Mart's prices. But I refuse to buy any type of meat products from there and will hit up Costco, Sobey's or Co-Op instead. Many fruit and veggies too.
