Sign this Wolf, and sign other DEL star Michael Wolf? 2 Wolf's on one line would be really intimidating.

Not overly familiar with the DEL. It looks like the last season game is this weekend. Anyone know off hand how long their playoffs run?

quarterfinals run till the end of March. Then there's semifinals and finals in April ... all best of 7 series. Until last season, semifinals and finals were only best of 5, but they changed it this year. Finals start on April 17th, last possible game is on April 30th.
Because of a knee injury, Wolf will miss at least the first few games of the quarterfinals.

I still feel like the sources of this signing are somewhat shallow in comparison to what most are used to.
A few German outlets? Nothing has been confirmed from either camp. I understand there are legalities involved, but it still feels like it's hanging on a few measly little quotes and a twitter feed.
I would love to see him in Flames threads, and pasting Kassian to the glass.

Ironically enough, I posted this same question on Twitter today asking if anyone has heard anything new on Wolf- nothing new to report unfortunately.

The newspaper which initially reported it, Bild, is terrible tabloid trash. Their 'transfer' rumours in soccer & whatnot are fabricated headline nonsense designed to get web traffic.
That being said, they throw enough #### at the wall that occasionally some of it sticks. A German signing for an NHL team is big news, and it's not the sort of story they normally seem to fabricate...

The first newspaper to report it was actually the "Hamburger Morgenpost", which is very close to the sports teams in Hamburg. They stressed in their game report today that he is going to Calgary:

|
which translates to:
"That was a dream start for us. It was easier for us than expected, and we dominated Iserlohn for 60 minutes", Wolf said, who will play for the Calgary Flames in the NHL next season. His wish before that: winning a championship with the Freezers.
http://www.mopo.de/freezers/hamburg-...,26572772.html
so ... take that with a grain of salt, but it seems that in Hamburg they are pretty sure that he's going to Calgary.

also, there's this:
http://www.ardmediathek.de/ndr-ferns...entId=20210546
no idea if you can watch this in NA (and understand it ), but after today's game, his coach said in the interview "that's why he'll play in the NHL next season" (at around 2:50 in the video). The report says there are rumours that he'll sign Calgary, but nothing official yet.

Have you watched much of his play lately, Devo? Do you see anything more than a 4th liner in him?
I've just noticed he's tied for 23rd in DEL points with an old high school friend of mine, Connor James...

I seriously don't know ... I go back and forth on this. It's really hard to say how those guys handle the transition to NA hockey. He has made big strides over the last couple of years, he really benefited from playing on a line with Flaake and Festerling in Hamburg. I think he could be a solid 3rd liner, but that's his ceiling in my opinion. Wolf-Stajan-Bouma sounds like a great 3rd line if you ask me ... you'd get grit, energy, two-play and some scoring with a line like that.
My favourite scenario would be that the Flames get both him and his linemate Jerome Flaake. Similar age, similar size and Burkie must be more than familiar with Flaake, since he was a 2008 Leafs pick. In terms of skill, Flaake impresses me more than Wolf ... who, in return, is a harder worker IMO. They compliment each other really well.

That is some pretty bad hockey in those highlights. I would put it behind the AHL in quality. It will be interesting to see if Wolf can make the step to the next level.

Flaake looks very interesting. Strange that he never featured at all in North America, despite being drafted in a decent position. Perhaps he never wanted to move from Germany? He's only 24, so could be a savvy acquisition.

he attended Leafs camps, but never came over full time. However, in recent interviews he spoke about how playing abroad is a big dream of him. Several KHL teams are interested, haven't read anything about NHL interest. I'd take a flyer on him though

I would be surprised if Wolf wasn't in the AHL for most of next season.

I think if he does end up playing on the flames, this should be his goal song.
I still remember it from the world juniors in Calgary. When the Swiss goalie Tim Wolf would make a big save they would play this song.
