the Providence Friars were the only team in Hockey East to sweep their quarterfinal opponent. Each of the other 3 series will be going to a sudden death 3rd game in their best of 3.
There will be some tired ass teams playing this afternoon too. The Northeastern vs New Hampshire game went to 4 overtimes last night, so this is pretty much their 4th game in 3 nights.
Vermont and UMass Lowell should also be tired as they went to double OT yesterday.
I'd like to see Vermont pull off an upset to create an easier path to the Hockey East Championship for either Boston College or Providence (if Vermont wins and BC loses, then PC becomes the top seed)
Also interesting to note is looking at the pairwise standings, it appears the loser of the BC/ND game today will likely still get into the tournament.

I have been a big fan of Arnold's ever since. But I still have the same concern I have had all along: does he have enough speed to be effective in the NHL?
For me, that is the only question. Everything else - including hockey IQ - is there. My fear is that he might be like Nemisz - all the tools, but too slow for the show. Obviously, I hope that isn't the case here, but until we actually see him against NHLers, it will be difficult to tell.

I really want to like Arnold. But I have a tough time seeing where he will fit in the NHL. Right now he is playing a scoring role. Most of the reports on him are that he is most likely going to fill a checking role in the NHL.
That said, I rarely get to see him play. Top end players are the difference between bad and good teams. But depth players like defensive forwards can be the difference between a good and great team.
I don't think you can have too many players like Knight, Arnold, Agostino, Reinhart, Ferland, etc in your system. In the case of the first three I am looking forward to seeing how they transition to pro.

Kevin Hayes has scored an early goal and BC is up 1-0. No assist for Johnny.

1-1 after one. No points for Gaudreau or Arnold.

Arnold? I'm thinking a Dave Bolland type of player. I think thats the safest bet for him if we were to compare players.

Eagles lose 4-2. Gaudreau is held off the score sheet for the first time in 32 games. The Streak ends tied with Kariya for the longest in Hockey East history.
Now, they have a week off before the start of the NCAA Tournament on March 28.
Providence will play New Hampshire next week in the Hockey East Semifinals. A win will see them face the winner of UMass-Lowell and Notre Dame in the Finals.

Umass Lowell beat Vermont 2-1
New Hampshire beats Northeastern 5-4
Notre Dame beats BC 4-2 (and the streak is over)
Semi-finals will be:
(1) Umass Lowell vs Notre Dame (4)
(2) Providence vs New Hampshire (3)
Providence was 1-1 vs. New Hampshire this season,
Game 1: 3-2 OT Loss
Gillies didn't play in the 3rd, I believe that was the game where he left injured.
Jankowski had 1 goal, was +1 and the 3rd star
Gilmour had 1 assist, was -2
Game 2: 4-2 Win
Gillies stopped 32 of 34 shots, was 3rd star
Jankowski was held off the scoresheet and was an even in +/-
Gilmour had 1 assist and was a +1

Yeah, they're off next week and play the week after. It's like football, when you only play on the weekends, a week off is almost two weeks between games.
Their last long break didn't do them any favours.
Anything can happen in a single-elimination format. I just hope they don't get matched up with Notre Dame in the NCAA Tourney.
The Regional Groupings will be announced next Sunday at 10:00am MT (on ESPN-U, if anyone has that).

I think Notre Dame is going to win Hockey East, they are just too hot right now. They are also up to #6 in the pairwise rankings, so realistically we could actually see the Irish and the Eagles top 4 seeds (or would it be both #1 seeds? You know what I mean) meaning no earlier matchup than the frozen 4 semifinals

Take with a grain of salt as it comes from a guy that is not usually reliable, but hearing Agostino has signed with the Flames and may play against Buffalo on Tuesday.

Whaaaaa....? Please tell me how you do it, sureLoss! You are consistently CP's MVP.
I'm excited to see what Agostino looks like in the pro game.

hope that's true, really curious to see what he can do at the pro level. I think Hanowski getting a cup of coffee last season was great for his development, as he could see what areas he had to work on over the summer. I'm sure Agostino would benefit tremendously from a few games with the Flames as well.

I remember being tremendously impressed with Agostino at prospects camp. I think he could be NHL ready this year.

I watched both Hanowski & Agostino extensively in last years Frozen Four, and Agostino is clearly the better prospect IMO. Head and shoulders. It's very exciting to think we may have another young player on the roster this week!

Agostino has wheels and generated a tonne of SOG in the NCAA. I think he is a pretty underrated prospect.

IIRC we are currently at 46 contracts.
With Gaudreau, Agostino, Arnold, Kulak seemingly all about to be signed, does that put us at the limit? Or do some of these slide onto next year?
Still potential contracts for Culkin, Gillies, Gordon, and UFA College players.
