Question: How many other consumer electronics manufactured outside but sold in Canada increased prices by 15% this month?
Answer: None, but I get you prefer Sony.
I have no horse in this race, but enjoy the debate.

Despite what you think I actually own none of the next gen products except a PC. My company had to adjust prices for local sales prices in the past as well after a quarterly FX estimation misses so it's the first thing I thought of. We maintained a very small amount of pre-sale inventory. Sony isn't in the best financial position so they can't afford to maintain sustained FX losses and I'm just stating what's likely going on.
They raised prices because of FX and because they can, you can chose to call consumer raping, acuse of fanboyism or whatever you want

I had been saying for a while we were getting a really good deal in Canada paying the same price as the US...couldn't last forever. On a side note I don't think the PS4 sells better because of the price alone, the hardware is more powerful

I think EB started the video game price uptick back in January at just $5. Now it's pretty much +$10 everywhere from FS, BB, VGP and even Amazon.ca for many (most?) Xbox, PS and Nintendo games in general. Been a lot of teeth gnashing on redflagdeals and cheapassgamer forums.
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/3...-by-5-dollars/
Again, it makes the $40 E3 sale prices that much sweeter. FS and BB have been honoring the locked in prices but I'd imagine the sale this year won't be so low. Then again you do get unexpected bonuses like free collectors edition upgrades ala South Park and Metal Gear.

^ Naw, I am pretty terrible when it comes to gaming. Hell, I even buy Japanese exclusive consoles for giggles (damn region lock BS).
I finally got my Titanfall CE home today - the thing is insanely huge. Definitely not a pragmatic purchase but hella cool. Buddy took my $40 preorder on the generic version rather than having me return it in store. Everybody wins!

So far only the source has bumped up their price. Is it certain that everybody else will follow?
Edit: Looks like it's confirmed. Accessories will also jump in price ($65 controller). This'll be fun.

For sure.
Speaking of Infamous, it's looking good:
Even the dynamic time of day looks cool:

Only thing that seems to be of potential concern is the sound since it really lacks any bass for a lot of the explosions/neon power, etc.

Not a good move by Sony IMO, Microsoft had a slow start but this move might get them back in the game. Hardcore gamers tend to be very bitter people and hold grudges lol.

Assuming the following:
1. Canada has a large bearing on global sales numbers (it doesn't)
2. Microsoft won't be following suit (most likely will)

So we can probably say Titanfall didn't pull in gigantic numbers... had it, Microsoft would definitely be trumpeting it by now.

There is 11 country's that have over 1 billion is sales when it comes to the video game market. Canada is one of those countries.

The thing is though it's still cheaper and not everyone wants Kinnect and Titanfall. ie. me. It's going to take a cheaper Kinnectless version or a bundle with a game that isn't multiplayer only for me to buy an Xbox One.

Actually basic math says it isn't cheaper any longer. If the PS4 is at $450, Xbox One is at $499 with Titanfall (which is a $60 game), you're still ahead of the PS4 by $10. If you don't want Titanfall, just go sell it if you'd rather realize savings in cash rather than material value. [shrug]
On the subject of a cheaper, Kinect-less SKU: the Kinect enables a ton of functionality native to the console, such as the LiveTV/OneGuide capability, TV/STB/Receiver control, auto sign-in, Skype, and game control. It's just not going to happen.

That's only if you can sell it for close to it's retail value. But Microsoft is most likely going to bump up the price too so it won't really matter.

^ Why are they?
Microsoft set the price of the xbox1 knowing the current Economy and the trend of the Canadian dollar.
Sony set the price to be under the xbox1. Sony even dropped the price in February in Europe so they could be "noticeably cheaper" then the xbox1.
Bottom line, Sony wanted to be considerably cheaper then the xbox1 at launch and they succeeded at that. Now that the launch has happened they can adjust the price to what the market dictates (which is within their right). Saying that a large company like Sony was "surprised" or " didn't account for the falling Canadian dollar" even though everyone knew it was going to happen is just silly.

The only reason you haven't seen a similar price bump for the Xbox One is because there is still tons of stock left in Canada that was purchased by retailers when the exchange rate was better. PS4 on the other hand sells out immediately when a retailer brings it in, so of course you'd see the price increase right away thanks to the lower Canadian dollar

Because price increases are becoming common in Canada so you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure Microsoft will eventually do the same. I never said either that Sony was surprised so I don't know why you would even make that statement.

And?
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=356585
In 2008 Canada accounted for less than 4% of video game revenue globally, a number that's unlikely to have changed significantly. With our weakened dollar and a less than 5% market share I'm sure companies aren't overly worried about losing a few sales due to a higher price.
