Another thing is to make sure you cover your car for any extra's that you have. My brother had a 82 Mustang that fell victim to a garage fire. Doesn't sound like much except that he had a lot invested in the car as he used it for drag racing. He had receipts for mostof the stuff that didn't burn....but at the end of the day he needed a specialized policy to get full replacement cost for all that extra stuff, even with receipts.

Sucks to her about this FG. I know after the incident my brother had I always make sure to get fire and theft on the car I park for the winter. The winter before his fire I had stored my car without insurance, so I was lucky.

Tough break Flames Gimp. It's probably little consolation to you, but a lot of people would have skipped the insurance in this situation (I know I would have).

So much this. If you don't tell your insurer about after market parts, the assume they are insuring a stock vehicle and have zero obligation to pay for extras.

Our office has had access to a fantastic collector/classic car insurer that operates on "agreed value" and requires no appraisal. Premium is usually some kind a cheap. Some restrictions obviously but it's a fantastic program.

Maybe that gas can in the engine compartment was the cause of the fire?

Are you sure the cause and effect are right there. Is there any way the power pole blew up first- causing the fire?

I'm just thinking it would work out better, as Enmax would be responsible for damages at that point.

The only other thing that could potentially give coverage is that if you add a vehicle you are afforded coverage as per your other insured vehicles. So if you already have enough a vehicle and it had comprehensive coverage you could try that route. I'm pretty sure that the limit is 14 days though, so you could out of luck, if it's an option to begin with.

I've bought a vehicle at auction and was told that I could take the plate off of one of my other cars and use that temporarily. There is apparently a grace period after purchasing where your existing cars insurance will cover the new car.

The above talks about the sections of the SPF#1 that are being referenced.
