NHL is a gamble.. there are some good prospects who turned into a bust and some who other thinks don't have a chance turned out to be a good NHL player. If the Flames didn't gamble on Fleury before, would we find out how good an NHL players he become? Just tired of people always thinking we should trade so and so because we can get so and so for him.

Couldn't agree more. The Flames acquired Colbourne to play for them, not to flip as an investment. Too many people seem to think that the NHL is a trading game where teams should be constantly flipping prospects and players. I had never even heard about this type of management strategy until I started lurking here.
Oh well, it's been said before, but it is a good thing that there are only 30 GM jobs in the league and they don't just give them away.

He's young, huge, has good hands, and is on pace for 30 points in his 1st NHL season. Trading him would be silly. Give him 3rd line duty for another season or two, and he might play his way into the top 6.
I'm not saying I believe he will, but to assume he can't at this point would be poor judgement.

It comes from people playing NHL video games on GM mode.

I thought the Be a GM strategy was to trade all your aging veterans for ludicrous returns.

I have no idea why anyone would want to trade this kid as since being switched to the wing he's probably been one of the best forwards on the team. He's a good skater, a good passer, and has some sick hands in all alone which is a good combination with his big frame. He's a keeper.

Give him another year. Size. Hands. Good in shoot-out. If Hartley can get him to put on muscle and play gritty could be a 4-6 player. We need to give guys a chance to develop. Look at Backlund.

I see joe as cut from more of the Nieuwendyk model. While he is tall and lanky, he is not huge - so won't be a 6'5" power forward, playing the body hard - but has reach and good hands.

Hartley was just praising the JC. Looks like JC will be a good NHLer for years to come. Trading guys that are about to break into NHL and are in that 24-26 age range makes zero sense. Go JOE!

While not overly physical I'm impressed by his board work, more often than not he is coming away with the puck.
He has really learned how to use his size/reach to his advantage
The Niewy comparison is bang on , if he develops a game like #25 his career will be long and plentiful

^^ I've seen Joe Nieuwendyk played for the Flames and I hate to say but it is unfair for Joe Colborne to compare him to Nieuwy. Nieuwy is a special player and I don't think any player can be compare to him. I would be so ecstatic if Joe Colborne can even get close to Nieuwy's talent.

It's easy to forget this - seems like he's been a prospect forever. Nice first season, particularly the second half. Looking forward to next year.

Have watched Colborne for a long as he has played.
He does not generate so much on his own - not that guy. But will do good work along boards coming away with the puck.
He has always been deadly one on one , and shootouts show that. If he plays with a real playmaker, I think he could score a lot. He always has anyway. Maybe it won't translate here, I don't know.

JC name should never even be mentioned in the same sentence...heck same room as Joe N.
That's like saying Blake Comeau is cut from the same cloth as Jarome Iginla.

The thing about trading Colborne or any player, you have to think of who you are going to replace him with. Right now we need big strong players. If we are going to trade anyone, it's where we have an overabundance of talent such as our small wingers.

I like JC and if he could become more offensive although less physical JO that would be great.
As for JC becoming JN that ship has sailed long time ago.

Sorry guys but those Nieuwendyk comparisons are absolutely ridiculous.
I'm not a Colborne hater but if he's to be compared to one of former flames then it's 100% David Moss.
Both tall yet lanky wingers with some offensive talent and decent wheels.
