The thread title is top 10 under 25 which includes Jamie Benn. And his goal was more important than any in the final game.

The original post says 1990 and whether it was more important or not doesn't change the fact it wasn't in the Gold Medal game.

Well the thread title is top 10 under 25 which is different than born after 1990. If we're going with after 1990 then fine.

Doughty should definitely be on that list. Seguin should be third. These are the changes that I would make to the original list.

OK Magnum! You can have Benn on your list...yeesh. I just wanted to make it easier, as there is no grey area. Yikes.

Brodie makes the top 15

Others on the verge of being in the top 10 would be Brodin, Trouba and maybe even Seth Jones.

I am a huge Ryan Johansen fan. He's already good but is going to be a star soon.

I really like Brodie, however IMO, he is not in the top 40.

LOL wut?

There is a strong chance 15 years from now, the guy will be leaving a similar legacy that Lidstrom did.

Are you telling me that you think Karlsson is becoming a legendary shut down dman, on top of his point production? He the Swedish PK Subban without the physical edge. Hes clearly a good player but hes closer to Ovechkin than Datsyuk.

No forward sits in the dressing room before playing the Sens wondering how in the world his line is going to get scoring chances against Erik Karlsson.

Karlsson has already won a Norris, and though he may not leave a legacy for the same reasons Lidstrom did, he may very well leave a similarily huge legacy for his offensive prowess.

Also give him some time. If he matures defensively with his front end skills now, he very well could end up as a complete package. Look at Al Macinnis. The guy could hardly skate when he came into the NHL, all he had was the shot. By the time he retired, he was a top level shut down guy.

Lidstrom proved you don't have to be physical to shut down top players. Positioning and smarts was all it took. The guy rarely threw a hit. And was the best first pass that ever played the game.

Totally true - but to this point, it doesn't apply to Karlsson at all

Hating on Karlsson because he doesn't fit into the "defenceman" archetype makes me question the evaluator.

Stamkos is my favourite of this new generation. I love watching him play... Reminds me of Brett Hull in his St. Louis days; pure sniper.

As for the rest... There are a lot of exciting players. Added a couple of others who haven't been mentioned...

Stamkos
Doughty
Mackinnon (so high on the list because he looks the business already – & likely to improve!)
Erik Karlsson
Tavares
Pietrangelo
Duchene
Victor Hedman
Hall
... and number 10:
John Carlson: quietly solid top pairing D man. Puts up good numbers.

By the numbers Brodie is at the same level or better than Bouwmeester was while he was a Flame.

He is putting in 24:00 / game for 67 games this year. He is a -3 on a team that is a collective -20. He has chipped in with 24 pts.

Going over a list of the top TOI / game d-men.... there are a lot of under 25 d-men in the top 30 TOI/game guys. 30 teams in the league That kinda of mean that these guys are #1 or at least #2 guys on their teams.

Karlson (23), Josi(23), Ekman-Larsen (22) , Pietrangelo (24), Subban(24), McDonagh (24), Carlson (24), Brodin (20), Brodie (23).

Brodie is tied for 3 youngest #1 level d-man in the league (Karlson May 31, Josi June 1 and Brodie June 7)
