Scary moment last night for sure. Peverley was also getting a lot of support from his ex Bruin team mates since this near tragedy.
Good to hear that he is improving, hopefully he can get back to playing hockey sooner than later.

Peverley done for the year. Will reportedly undergo a procedure in Cleveland to correct the arrhythmia. I'm guessing that means an ablation at the Cleveland Clinic. You often need more than one ablation to completely eliminate the episodes. Assuming a successful ablation, I would think he has a decent chance of returning to NHL- unless there are insurance issues etc.

Ablation is considered more of a procedure than a surgery- is not open heart surgery. The cathodes they use to zap the heart are actually inserted in the groin area!

Breaking news on the NHL.com ticker says that doctors are keeping Peverley out for the rest of the season and he is going to be having a heart "procedure" (surgery I assume).

No story is actually posted yet that I can find though.

It's up now:

Dr. Robert Dimeff said Peverley was given the option of treating atrial fibrillation, the most common type of heart arrhythmia, with a minor adjustment and medication or missing several months to undergo a more invasive approach.

"He said, 'I'm new to the team, it's a new coach, a new general manager, I only have a two-year contract, they've got to know that I can play,"' Dimeff said of Peverley, who came to the Stars in an off-season trade from the Boston Bruins. "And so we went back and forth. That was a joint decision, an informed decision on his part."

It's too bad the images are broken. I've never seen that thread before.

I haven't really followed up on this story in the last few days, but after watching parts of the doctor's press conference, it appears that Peverley's A Fib did degenerate to a rapid ventricular arrhythmia- so, they did in fact use an AED, and not a manual cardioversion for A Fib, on him at the arena and he would have likely been a goner had an AED not been present... scary.

It is rare for young people to have A Fib, but it is extremely rare for A Fib to degenerate to V Fib... usually only happens in people with Wolff Parkinson White, which Peverley apparently doesn't have.

Anyway, he's off to have an ablation.
