And by that same logic, just because they don't let a black guy in, doesn't mean they're being racist.
Calgary is not unique in this situation, maybe it's a little worse here, but it's still fighting off that small town mentality. In my opinion, a lot of Calgary hasn't fully realised the diverse and expansive city it's become. You've still got some ignorant townfolk who express their ignorance in a variety of ways.
Sorry you have to deal with racism, that has to be awful, but try not to paint Calgary as some inherently racist city, it's not.

Well what do you think it means? Honest question. Why was the black guy in that video told he had to be 25 to get in while the white 24 year old behind him had no problems?
After being born and raised here I think I have a pretty good feel on the city. Rarely have I ever dealt with racism but definitely at clubs. Without a doubt there are clubs in Calgary who don't want a lot of brown folks in their club.
Maybe in all my years clubbing I would have seen some white folks being denied then I'd change my tune but I never have. Always the brown guys. Moot point for me now as I don't go clubbing anymore. Dressing up and driving downtown and then getting denied entry to 5 places in a row isn't fun.

I'm white, blue eyes, very Scandinavian. I've got that classic "not even kind of ethic" look, and I've been denied entry into clubs. Sometimes they say it's the shoes (even though I see other guys walk in with similar kicks, or girls I'm with wearing sneakers get let in), sometimes it's a shirt (and I ask "if I change my shirt am I good to come in?" And I just get ignored, I've outright been told "no"), and I've even been hit with the "this age and over" line when I KNOW it's not true.
White guy with some sweet baby blues, so what? That's racist?
As I said, I KNOW you've dealt with racism, this city isn't perfect and there are a lot of racist townies mucking up the system, but getting turned away at the club isn't a solely racist thing. It happens to us "white folk" too.
Hell, when I was into going to the club, there were certain ones I'd avoid *cough*Roadhouse*cough* because I knew I stood a 20% chance of getting in.

Yup.
I always make sure the bins are out the day before pick up (out on Monday, pick up is Tuesday) and I bring them back in the day after pick up, IF they happened to actually get emptied!

I'm white and I've been going to clubs and bars for years I have never been turned away, not once, ever. Obviously there is something about you that makes bouncers not want to let you in. Racism has nothing to do with it.

Commonwealth has a lot of things they won't let people in for so I'm not surprised white pants aren't allowed. Last time I went a guy wanted to fight the bouncer for not letting him in because he was wearing True Religions (he was white)

Stop the presses. A white guy was denied entry at a bar downtown. In the hundreds of times I've been clubbing I don't ever recall a white person being denied.
You guys still haven't answered a simple question. Why wasn't the guy in that video who was 24 and white denied entry when the black guy who wasn't 25 was because of the "over 25" rule.

The date on that video puts it as being 8 years ago.
I'm sure racism still exists in Calgary, and if you were to go looking for it you would find it. What I think people are saying is something I see as well- as a white person many times when I have to tell somebody who isn't white something negative; the race card gets pulled.

Wasn't even my intent to make this racial, simply that it grinds me gears that you'll be denied entry based on the colour of your pants. Thought it was a bit silly.

Well 8 years ago was my bar hopping prime so maybe things have changed but I'm also not holding my breath.

Why are you trying to turn this into an argument? Seriously man, it's alright to chill once in a while.
My point is that people get turned away for a lot of different reasons, not just race. Nobody is marginalising the struggles of being a minority, so chill out.
I'm going to go back to my original statement, enough of the puckluck race war: WHAT GUY WEARS WHITE PANTS? He deserved to be turned away for sure for that.
I would've also accepted his denial for red pants.

If a person ever got the feeling that a bouncer / establishment was being racist at the door, barring entry or any other behaviour, why would said patron still want to go into the bar and spend money there, supporting said business?
If I was a black guy and I was getting the impression there was racism involved, I'd take my business to the non-racist establishments and wouldn't think twice about it. Not every place is like that, find a new one. Why would you want to give these idiots money anyway?
