The problem with the PTO and then NHL contract is half the allure for NCAA players signing early is the NHL contract starting right away is money and burning of the one year. This way they get their bonus right away and then again on July first. For Gaudreau it would be 90k, maybe an NHL game check, a couple weeks salary in the AHL, and then the 90k July bonus as well as burning one year of the ELC.
At this point you don't screw around with him and get him signed, even if it means burning that first year. I think he deserves/earned it.

Long time lurker ('04), first time poster.
I spend enough time reading posts, I always hoped to avoid wasting more time posting. I guess it's too late now!
I have a free ticket available to any CPer for Saturday's BC playoff game. Any takers??
I'm stoked to see Johnny live, considering the flames game I saw in Montreal this year was a dud. Let me know.

If JG can provide the same skill and PP work that Huselius provided the Flames it will be a huge win. Huselius maybe taller but he had the body of a 14 year old...yet still developed into a solid skilled player.
BC athletics site has some stats up involving this weekends match up between BC and ND, all review for discussions in this thread but neat to look at heading into the weekend.

JUST KEEPS ON GAUDREAU-ING Johnny Gaudreau is averaging nearly two points per game (1.88 ppg) after becoming the first skater in college hockey to hit the 40-point, 50-point and 60-point plateaus this season. Gaudreau’s 30 goals and 34 assists in 34 games puts Gaudreau in the driver’s seat as the country’s leader in points scored. Gaudreau is also leading the country in goals per game (0.88 gpg) and second on the assist chart with 1.00 helper per outing. Gaudreau’s six game-winning goals are tied for second-best in the land. His 18 multi-point games is the standard in college hockey, as are his nine three-point games, three four-point showings.
#TheStreak Johnny Gaudreau is in the midst of college hockey’s longest point streak. The Carneys Point, N.J., native has scored at least one point in his last 29 games and has been held scoreless in just one outing this season (at Minnesota - Oct. 27). Over the course of Gaudreau’s streak, he has accrued 27 goals and 29 assists for 56 points along with 16 multi-point performances and a +33 rating. Gaudreau is two games shy of matching the Hockey East record set by Paul Kariya (Maine) for his 31-game point streak that spanned from Oct. 23, 1992 to March 2, 1993. Vermont’s Craig Homola posted a 32-game streak, but that occurred over the course of two seasons (1979 and 1980). Gaudreau has also scored a point in ALL 20-consecutive conference games, three short of Kariya’s 23-game streak. This season, there were only 20 league games.
JOHNNY BE (doing) GOOD Johnny Gaudreau still has the postseason left on the schedule and is already 13 points ahead of last year’s points total (64). Gaudreau tied Minnesota’s Erik Haula for the most points totaled in 2012-13. Gaudreau posted a line of 21-30-51 (1.46 ppg) while Haula finished 16-35-51 (1.38 ppg). Gaudreau just surpassed Spencer Abbott’s total of 62 points in 2011-12 and has tied Colorado College’s Marty Sertich’s mark of 64 points (2004-05).
CHARTING JOHNNY
For a career, Johnny Gaudreau has surpassed all three BC coaches on the career records chart. Gaudreau passed Greg Brown (120), Jerry York (134) and Marty McInnis (142) and is now tied for 20th all-time at Boston College (72-87-159). Gaudreau’s 159 total points are also second most amongst current college skaters in career points. Of the 19 top skaters in that career list, Gaudreau is the only junior listed. Everyone else is a senior.
JOHNNY GOAL-DREAU Johnny Gaudreau has scored a power play goal in five-consecutive games stretching from Feb. 14 to March 1. The 5-foot-8 winer has also scored a goal in his last six outings, starting on Feb. 10 in the Beanpot Tournament. Gaudreau’s six-game goal-scoring streak stands as a career high.

I don't think it's in Johnny's best interests to sign the ATO with the Heat. There's alot more size in competition, bringing him greater risk for a long term injury, for the benefit of a $30k AHL play-off run?
Sorry for asking the same question over and over again but when ist the first date he can sign with us? Is there a timeline?
I assume you mean earliest he can sign without losing eligibility.
The NCAA Tournament begins on March 28th.
The Frozen Four Championship is on April 12th.
If Boston College is upset in the opening round he could potentially sign March 29th. If the Eagles go the distance like we expect, then an April 13th is more likely. Or it could be anywhere in the middle.

What is the deal with this series against UND then? I thought they were in a QF with them. Is that just a Hockey East tournament? There are other trophies to be won?

Yes. There is the Hockey East Tournament and the NCAA Tournament.
The winner of Hockey East gets an automatic invitation to the NCAA Tourney, but there are also 10 invites for teams that don't win their conference. There are 6 conferences in the NCAA Division 1, and 16 teams get invited to the tournament.
Boston College ended the regular season as the second-ranked team in the country, so they will get one of the 10 invites even if they get eliminated in the Hockey East quarterfinals.
