Byron is not just fast but is much quicker than most of the bigger players - his burst to pick up loose pucks is noticeable. He doesn't seem to get himself in a position to take a big hit but is still succesfully winning pucks.
Also:
Smart player - doesn't make many mistakes
consistent work effort
consistent level of play
versatile - can take a regular 5 on 5 shift, can kill penalties, good 4 on 4, has shootout skills
To me this is a lot positive qualities that aren't easily replaced.
That said, the flames have a lot of small players so hard to say what the flames do with him. At the very least an asset that helps the flames.
Would like to see him stick
so yes, I like Paul Byron

Thought his recent play deserved this thread to be bumped. He plays big, is smart defensively, a very good playmaker and can score as well.
I hope he's here to stay. His height doesn't matter at all. He's been our most consistent forward night in and night out.

Ideally he would be on the 4th line with Big Ern as that would take away any size issue. He's playing great though, honestly a decent player to have gotten back.

Be an utter waste on 4th line. Horrible idea.

Really? In what way?
I don't see him being good enough to maintain a top 6 spot, he could slide in on the 3rd line depending if he can remain consistent in his effort and production but I don't see a problem with being a 4th liner when the rest of his linemates are also hockey players and not just goons.

On the 4th line, no offense.
I like him, BUT, I don't think he's a major player on this team when they make the playoffs again.
I'd love to be wrong though.

Loving his tenacity. If he can earn a full-time spot all the power to him. Who knows if Gaudreau/Sven will become NHLers so Byron has a shot of grabbing that "small forward" spot right now and run with it.

I expect both Sven and Johnny will be NHLers, especially Gaudreau.

Lord Byron plays way bigger than he is. I think a 3rd line of Bouma, Lord Byron, and a solid 2-way Centre could be very effective going forward.

If the Flames can manage to draft a center the likes of Reinhart, Bennett, McDavid, etc, you could definitely see Bouma, Byron, Backlund as our third line. Which would be great considering how they excelled as a first line last night.

Byron is playing great! Not bad for a guy that is 5'7 and 153 pounds. Maybe people will stop ruminating over Gaudreau's size, who is a much better prospect than Byron was. Unless the Flames elect to let Cammalleri walk I don't see how Byron and Gaudreau could be on the same team. Hopefully Byron's play gives Burke another reason to consider his small players and which fit in long term.

Not sure why Byron can't play top six if he consistently plays like this. His hands, speed and tenacity are amongst the best on the team. He's proven he's an NHL player. Would rather have him at the moment that a couple others at least.
If there was a replacement needed for Cammalleri's spot in the summer, I'm not sure why Byron can't permanently take that. He's having a huge impact for the Flames on the ice.
In my opinion, with the departure of Stempniak and the injury to David Jones, and the potential departure of Cammalleri, Byron has played his way onto this team for good.

Hockey DB has him at 5'10" 180 lbs?
Where did you see hi. Listed at the number your posted?
Edit: the flames web site has him at those numbers. Crazy difference between two sources

He has pretty darn good hockey sense, insane speed burst, and surprisingly good hands. Also, he plays waaay bigger than he is. Just goes to show that if you have the work ethic, small stature means very little. Gaudreau would be wise to see what he does to play in the NHL.

He can play in the top 6 during the rebuild sure but once the team is ready to contend then they are going to need a much better player than Byron. But might as well have him out there skating around making the fans happy than TJ Galiardi or David Jones.

At what point is the rebuild complete and if he has contributed in a postive way to the rebuild, I think he should be able to stay.
If he can't cut it then let him go, if he can play on the team keep him.

I would say the rebuild is complete once the Flames are competing for the play-offs regularly.
Sure if by that time he has improved on his play and is able to produce like needed he can stay in the top 6 but he hasn't shown that he is likely to be at that level.
