Has anyone seen anything about cell phone data in these investigations?
There must have been 200 cell phones on that flight. Nothing useful from any of that?

How "confirmed" are those Rolls Royce status reports? Also, Rolls Royce still makes airplane engines?!

There better be a movie to come out of this.

Which suggests, if hijacked, it never made it very close to land again? At least, not with any conscious people on board?
I wonder if any effort has been made to try to locate cell signals.

Assuming the "eek" is because you're surprised Rolls is one of the big three engine makers along with Pratt & Whitney, General Electric, and not because there is some level of concern that the Rolls engine is antiquated.
But again this is the kind of thing that's mind-blowing because authorities needed to know about this right away. Within seconds of hearing about this, surely somebody at Rolls would have realized that Malaysia's 777 are equipped with this system and may have been transmitting data. Some portion of this is delayed reporting of things, but it seems there is some level of sheer incompetence during this investigation.

I just legitimately didn't know that they still made engines. Pratt and Whitney either. They made the F4U Corsair engine. My favourite WW2 plane.

What makes you think they didn't?
Fact is the latest Rolls (Trent 1000) is probably the best civil jet engine ever built.

I guess just ignorance. I don't really delve into the world of aviation at all

P&W have never stopped, one of my best buds as a kid is one of the top dogs there today.
As for the Corsair engine, I built a working model of the Wasp 18 cylinder engine which was also the engine of choice for the Hellcat and Thunderbolt and I think even for the later twin Black Widow I believe.

Aren't the odds of a meteor hitting a stationary vehicle and a moving vehicle the same? It's still taking up the same amount of surface area at any given point. I was thinking about this exact question earlier tonight, as my son has a book about a meteorite in the Smithsonian that hit a parked car.

Part sensationalistic media wording, since 911, part truth.
If you're advanced enough in planning and logistics to hijack/steal a fully loaded 777, knowing how and what to shut down as far tracking systems on the plane (and who knows maybe even on the ground with some help) and have a relatively isolated and covert place to land and store it to go undetected from the the entire world, I am sure it and its passengers are not for a trophy room.
If going through all that, surely they have access to jet fuel and other provisions to carry out stage 2 of whatever plans are for it. Probably couldn't go very far now though, if its in the 4-5 hour radius, with all satellites pointed that general direction, tracking systems on the plane disabled or not (though the RR engine data tracking may be something they don't know about)
Lots of IF's in that and still only one theory....but the RR engine data lends creedance to the fact that the plane very much still was fully operational hours later and not at the bottom of the sea.

According to this the plane sent two bursts of data to Rolls Royce. One during takeoff and one during climb. Where did this report of 4 hours later that the WSJ is reporting come from I wonder.

,Maybe some or all of the flight crew hijacked the plane.
That would explain the lack of data.

Was hoping to wake up and see the Chinese satellite images yielded some answers...
The search goes on.

Last Press Conference was at 330am MST
Quote:
- MAS confirm reports on that aircraft continues to fly after losing contact is inaccurate. Last engine data transmission at 01:07 indicates everything is normal. Confirmed by Roll-Royce & Boeing.
- Malaysia authorities found nothing at the area indicated by Chinese satellite image.
- Chinese government did not authorize the previously released satellite image on SASTIND website.
- The aircraft is fully serviced and ready to fly. Last service was at 23 Feb, and were schedule for next service at 19 Jun.
- Military radar doesn't show what aircraft is turning back. It's the authorities duty to investigate the possibilities of the flight may reached Straits of Malacca, hence the expanded SAR area.
- Main effort remained at South China Sea.
- FAA & NTSB working on the aircraft turn back with provided data, found it's reasonable to continue to search at Straits of Malacca. ICAO is also working on the radar readings.
- Malaysian authorities have shared military radar reading with their counterparts to help with investigation.
- Authorities denies report that house of MH370's crew was searched by police.
- All passenger on the manifest is being examined by authorities.
- Same amount of financial allowance is given to families of all passenger.
- No distress signal was received.
- Radar reading is requested from neighbouring data.
- Malaysia lose the aircraft from radar when aircraft is transferred from Malaysia ATC to Vietnam ATC at IGARI waypoint.
- No other data is transmitted from aircraft beyond the last engine data transmission.
- ACARS can be programmed to report at preset condition, last transmission indicate everything is ok.
- Investigation on the connecting passenger phone is still ongoing.
- 20 families from China travelled to Kuala Lumpur.
- Military will be present on next PC to brief media on the technical details of the SAR operation.
|
So Malaysian Authorities now say the WSJ article, saying the plane continued on for multiple hours, is wrong?
The whole "- Authorities denies report that house of MH370's crew was searched by police." bothers me. I would hope to hell that their houses were indeed checked!
