Little late to the game but what a surprise this one was.

I saw Wotherspoon head off ice in the second?, did that amount to anything significant or is he back in?

I though the flames shell shocked them in the first and when they got the goal later in the second, they kept pushing.

The fans were in 224 and several sections were giving them a standing ovation as they left the ice, which was nice to see as they really applied themselves.

I thought Ortio played _extremely_ and made some unbelievable saves. I wondered, could this be it? However, the ducks top line seemed to have the moves but couldn't connect on anything.

Think it was because he got hit in the face with the puck. He did return according to the roster log though.

Every section I looked at gave an ovation after each period.

Wotherspoon took a puck in the face in the third, and Backlund went off for a bit to walk off a shot block. Both returned to the game and finished it off.

One of the nicest surprises this season, and I don't want to jinx it but, has been Backlund health. Only missed games were healthy scratch.

I don't know what the heck is going on in this, but it was in the Sights and Sounds and was begging for a GIF.

Awesome game! That was the best effort from the Flames all season. The only negative was McGrattan not scoring.

I love watching the flames play spoiler... Going to be a tough two game road trip against Dallas and Phoenix. I know a lot of people wouldn't mind both those teams getting some points ahead of Vancouver but I'm still hoping the flame can get a winning streak going.

He's starting to look like a strong 2nd line centre. It's great to see.

I think we might be decently set at centre with Monahan, Backlund, Granlund, Jankowski, Stajan, Knight, and Arnold.

We need one of them to be a game breaking offensive centre though. Not sure if I see any of them being able to create that kind of top end offense.

It's funny... Ortio's sv% this year (.907) is almost identical to Berra's sv% since December 1st (.905), yet people are raving about Ortio when they ranted about Berra ever starting.

I agree with you, but I think the thing that bothered people about Berra is he played on the edge of control and put himself out of position at times. Ortio plays a very controlled game, similar to Kipper. People like that. Ortio still has problems, which are pretty obvious, but he looks like he could be a starter with a little work.

While this is true, and many fans are likely getting a bit too excited (as is the nature of a sports fan), there are some other factors in play.

1. Ortio is only 22; more than 4 years younger than Berra.
2. Ortio put up much better numbers in the AHL.
3. Ortio has looked, most of the time, more composed and in control. Less huge rebounds for sure.
4. Ortio is from Turku. Destined for greatness.

Ortio seems more calm and collective in the crease, he's only going to get better. Plus he's already got 2 assists!

that was a pleasant surprise. Took my 8 year old, can't remember the last time Calgary scored 4 in the first.

Its not like the games before Dec 1st didn't happen.

Ortio save percentage is also hindered by the fact that the Flames have decided to become the NJ Devils of the 90s in terms of shots allowed of late.

Islanders - 26 shots
Canucks - 14 shots
Kings - 23 shots
Ducks - 22 shots

I guess Backs didn't get the puck back. Pure coincidence the same girl who got the puck also got his stick.
