Tags cause it was posted a few pages ago, but here's a map where it the plane could have gone with the estimated fuel on board.

Airplane goes off course into foreign / hostile airspace? Wouldn't be the first time.
I remember hearing about this on one those NTSB / TSA programs on crash investigations.

US says spy satellites show no evidence of mid air explosion. But the telegraph does say that this is a moderate tension area, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, Indonesia all have relatively sophisticated air defence systems but might not be saying too much so as not to divulge their surveillance capabilities.

I assume that is aimed at me.
The page moves pretty quickly, so I am sorry if I upset you.

It was only light aircraft that I flew but here was the procedure we followed with the transponder:
-fire up the engine
-once the electronics were fired up we'd move the transponder to the "standby" position
-call up ATC and get your unique 4 digit transponder code and input it into the transponder
-only once pulling onto the active runway for takeoff the transponder would be moved into the "on" position
Upon landing once we pulled off the runway you'd switch it to "standby" again.
I did fly one plane that had an auto setting for the transponder, and upon lifting off it would automatically switch itself on. But you could still turn it off if you wished.
|
After 9-11 I said these transponders should not be able to be turned off till the aircraft is on the ground, surely the technoligy exists to make that happen.

You can still pull the circuit breaker for the transponder and turn it off.

Accepting the erosion of the English language is unacceptable. Communicate properly, or expect others to chastise you.
On this topic, I am almost mesmerized by this whole story. There just doesn't seem to be a real logical answer to what happened.. at least not one that has enough evidence to support it.

So you're saying there's no technology available to make it independent and at least "difficult" to turn off?
