I actually think Hanowski has played better than Reinhart. He's been a lot stronger on the puck and his skating has not been noticeable in a negative way.

Reinhart fell a lot for some reason.

Helping the Heat helps the development of our prospects. They are currently on a massive losing streak and need help ASAP.

The Heat will be going to the playoffs and them having a long playoff run will help the development of guys like Wotherspoon, Granlund (if healthy), Reinhart, Hanowski, Ortio, Jooris, Knight, Baertschi and potentially late additions like Agostino, Gaudreau, Arnold.

No, it isn't. The purpose of the Heat is to support the Flames. Period. The interests of the Flames should trump those of the Heat in every way, and at all times.

That's what they did historically and look how that worked out for developing players in the system.

That's pretty shortsighted. The interests of the Heat are closely related to the interests of the Flames during a rebuild. It helps the future of the Flames for the Heat to have a long playoff run and help develop Baertschi, Wotherspoon, Granlund (if healthy), Reinhart, Hanowski, Ortio, Jooris, Knight, Sieloff, etc and potentially late additions like Agostino, Gaudreau, Arnold, Kulak, Culkin. Several of those players may be full time Flames next year and several more the year after.

In addition it does nothing for us for the Flames to have a slightly better 4th line the rest of this season. Being slightly worse and finishing lower for the higher draft pick is arguably more important long term.

Yes, but maybe ensuring that the Heat make the playoffs is what is in the best interests of the Flames.

Could be a contract status thing.

Hanowski is RFA, no? The flames might want to see him against NHL competition as part of that.

Was MacDonald an emergency call up, because we only had one goalie otherwise

No.
The Flames only had one goalie because they traded the other one away. That sort of self-inflicted shortage doesn't qualify for an emergency call up.

The way I see it, if Glencross is the one coming back then Reinhart was the call-up that was more-or-less covering Glencross's position. Hanowski is covering for Westgarth & his minutes, so he gets to stay up until the veteran in the bottom 6 role returns. Granlund probably stays up until Stajan returns from grieving.

As an added bonus Max should really help the Heat. I don't know if he alone will turn the tables in Abbotsford. Do you think Ortio returns there once Ramo is 100% back?

Edit: Westgarth is back... 4th line tonight is Westgarth/Knight/Hanowski... YIKES.
