Creature Sightings Facebook Group
Lovely people.

Quote:
A new Facebook group called "Creature Sightings" that mocks Calgary street people has drawn the attention of the city's police.
Members post photos and videos of people who appear homeless and make comments on them. Police are investigating and say charges are not out of the question.
“We will be reviewing it on an ongoing basis to determine whether there is criminal offences that are occurring and we'll lay appropriate charges if they're necessary," said Sgt. Erin Partridge.
She said they're urging anyone who feels harassed to contact them.
"We take this very seriously — that a website such as this is marginalizing our already vulnerable community members and is being viewed and actively engaged at and we really encourage members of the public not to further support it by going to the website," she said.

I thought this was going to a FB group based on bigfoot/alien sightings. Slightly disappointed.

Wow, that was quick! I was just reading on the news link, and people were saying they'd reported it multiple times and got back the answer that it wouldn't be removed since it wasn't against any FB policy.
Maybe once the police got involved, it was a different story.

I didn't look at the photos or comments posted on the Facebook group itself. I wonder what kind of charges the police could have laid in this instance.

Yeah, we were all looking for a facebook group composed of crazy people and instead it was one composed of @$$holes.

Would there be less outcry if the group was called drunk bum sightings? Are people hung up on the name because there are a buttload of funny pictures out there of drunk bums in funny poses... The yoga one I saw recently spring to mind.
I really don't see how the cops can be involved unless there is some sort of privacy violation of posting someone picture on facebook without their consent.

I think the police involvement is if someone is being harassed because of the facebook activity. Other then that I don't see why the po po are involved.

I don't think people are really "hung up on the name", I think they are more upset that there are a group of deranged people in Calgary going around trying to humiliate the most vulnerable members of the city.
Like that one shot of the guy in the wheelchair missing his legs... they are taking pictures of this person to make fun of him. Doesn't matter what the page is called when you are willing to go that low.
