For as long as you continue to use absolute values to project prospects, I will continue to dig them up down the road.

You said in the very same thread where I got the above quote from that unless Knight was injured, he was a sure thing to start the season with the Flames.

"Sure thing" should never be used in describing prospects, especially ones who have yet to even play a pro game.

Also, thank you for digging this stuff up. It helps.

There is a reason why I use absolute values when projecting prospects. I am trying to improve my scouting abilities, so if say that Poirier blows and misses entirely, and I've been saying that he's going to be a 3rd liner + with 1st line upside, then I can see that I screwed up my estimation, and then can examine why I rated him so high, and why he didn't reach what I was seeing in him. Similarly, I can't go back and say that such and such a prospect was awesome from day one if they randomly breakout and it was completely unnoticed by me.

More information helps me improve, and that is always a good thing, whether the info is positive or negative.

If Baertschi is our 10th best prospect we have the deepest prospect pool in the league by a mile.

			Monahan
Baertschi

Granlund
Reinhart
Ortio
Knight
Wotherspoon
Poirier
Klimchuk

This would be my top 11. People trashing on knight didn't see him start the year the guy was great, I think his first year being a pro going from 30ish games in college to 80ish in the pro game really surprised him. Expect him to prepare better going into next year and being the #1 center in abbotsford and will probably get called up by Christmas.

Reinhart I think cracks the roster next year in a third line role with upside.

Expect baertschi to bounce back in a big way next year, my guess is he comes into camp, plays great but starts the season in abbotsford on knights line. Will be the first call up after averaging 1.5 ppg.

My guess next year the lines are as follows:
Glencross/backlund/granlund
Colborne/monahan/hudler
Bouma/Stajan/reinhart
Mcgrattan/westgarth/jones

I think they will roll three centers for the most part, and if they need another they could move colborne back for a shift or two. However this assumes we do not sign anyone in the offseason (which I think we will) and our draft pick will stay in junior.

I haven't heard anything specific - just Hartley saying it looks to be "longer term".

Aside from the 1st rounders we BADLY need couple of late rounders to develop into very good players, not just bottom liners. High hopes for Ortio.

Looking at Sharks; guys like Pavelski, Demers, Braun etc. Excellent drafting.

Bill Arnold, Jon Gillies, Max Reinhart and Johnny Gaudreau are looking pretty decent for middle round picks too.

But for late round, I pick Ortio

I am going to give him our top prospect spot (if you don't consider Monahan a prospect anymore) because the kid is putting up an average of 2 points a game in the NCAA. That's what he's done lately. I considered all of the 2013 first round picks my top picks because of how well they are doing this year.

As Flames Draft Watcher stated above though - Sieloff is definitely a better skater than Sarich ever was. Another thing in the 'plus' category is Sieloff's first pass - much better than Sarich's ever was (though Sarich I think was a bit underrated in this category). Sieloff is a better puck mover - not necessarily projected to be in any way offensive, but a good puck-mover out of the zone.

If Sieloff develops into a Sarich clone, it is a huge win though. Sarich was a huge part of Tampa's team when they won the cup, and was a big part of the Flames for most of his tenure here (minus the last couple of years). Seems to be a pretty big part suddenly in Colorado again too. I HOPE Sieloff develops into Sarich.

Sarich put up more points as a junior than Sieloff... different eras and all. If Sieloff becomes a Sarich type player we should all jump up and down for joy as you said.

Interesting ranking. I think Poirier ahead of Baerstchi is defendable.

Arnold I'm still skeptical that he'll be more than an average sized grinder. I'd have him way lower.

Jankowski should still be top 10 based on upside/ceiling IMO.

Those were my two major issues with your list.

Jankowski was a guy I went back and forth on. He's improving, but he's a very reliable role guy on his team, but he hasn't grown yet to be THE guy.

Agreed.

But IMO prospect rankings are about how good the players will be in the NHL when fully developed, not how far developed they are. Arnold is further developed but arguably has considerably less upside than Janko.

Anyways still an interesting list. Next year will be a big year for Jankowski as he will be expected to take a step forward. Should be interesting to see what type of role Arnold carves out for himself in pro.
