No they won't. Heatley's contract ends after this season.
Without moving out another large contract, the Wild could not have fit Vanek's contract under the cap if they had acquired him last week.

SALARY CAP: $71,100,000; CAP PAYROLL: $68,456,923; BONUSES: $3,383,333
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $2,643,077
easily cap compliant. Scary offense ... goaltending a bit of a question mark (they do have Kuemper though) and defense could use one more good player, but other than that ...

Except that the cap is being forecast between $68 and $69 million...

They need a good goalie more than they need both Vanek and Moulson.

Maybe use him as an NHLPA version of the show Scared Straight?

Canadian dollar has decreased which effects the cap. Its estimated to be coming in at between 66 and 68 mil right now.
So some of the teams that planned for a 71 mil cap next year are a bit screwed.

Plus if they consider themselves legit contenders, they don't want to get Suttered late in the year with too many contracts and no cap space.

The Canadian dollar decreasing can help the Flames pick up some nice UFA's this coming year if we're willing to pick up any. Also can help if a team really needs to unload some good players that are taking too much space in the cap.

Yeah, I can accept the part about his body being worn out.
I guess if they really need cap space, they will still need it at the draft.

Not sure why there would be a concern 11 years later. It's been his burden to deal with. People have made mistakes, some more serious than others. McGrattan had to work through alcohol abuse. Shouldn't we be concerned that he'll turn the kids into the next Carter/Richards?
For a guy who has been demoted to the 4th line, he's taken his lumps and continued to work hard without complaints, even moving back up the lineup at times. Even scored 11 goals compared to Cammy's 13. ~11 assists versus ~19 but for a broken down player who can barely skate, not bad.

Except that Burke flatly said that he had the deal done on his end but the other side couldn't get it's part done. It's not a matter of Burke "not budging" it's a matter of another deal not coming to fruitition.

Interesting that it was Stafford they were after and not Vanek as was being reported. Too bad we couldn't capitalize but thems the breaks. Probably prevented a second crash of CP that day with all the anti-Heatley vitriol around here.

Depends, does Bob Hartley have a time machine?
Heatley is done.
