I have fun with the Titanfall beta but still question the decision to go without at least some semblance of a single player campaign.
Really has the potential of being just like Warhawk for the PS3.
Really fun, somewhat different and groundbreaking (Multiplayer only, Air/Ground/Foot combat all at the same time.) but becomes a niche game that not everybody can get into due to the multiplayer only nature, small install base at system launch, and criticized for being a full price game that was multiplayer only.
It is a much different landscape since online play and multi-player have taken over the console market over the last 5 years and since the original Warhawk launched in 2007, but is a very similar story overall.

The 360 is still there with a massive install base. Microsoft is still hoping people use Titanfall to push out Xbone consoles though (and purposely holding back the 360 version).

Lets be honest, there aren't very many people who buy a game like Battlefield or Call of Duty for the single player. Why waste resources developing a campaign that people are going to rush through in 6-10 hours and then never play? I wish DICE would stop wasting their time on BF campaigns.

It is not a trend that I like with those games either.
Call of Duty used to have great campaigns. Modern Warfare was as popular as it was because of more than just the multiplayer, it was the campaign that brought everybody in the multiplayer took off after the fact.
Also I think many would agree the series has went downhill as they moved away from developing a whole game towards just re-skinning the multiplayer experience.
Battlefield has always been multiplayer only but IMO the PC experience is different then the console experience.

Everyone bought Call of Duty for the campaign before the multiplayer blew up with part 4. Even 4 sold on the basis of its awesome and groundbreaking campaign. Ever since then they've just kinda mailed in the single player.

Actually, CoD 2 had a huge competitive multiplayer scene on PC.

Glad to hear the game is pretty fun. I ordered the Titanfall Xbox One bundle. Its been years since I've played a FPS...I have a feeling I'm gonna be getting slaughered online. Probably by a bunch of annoying kids.

Well I have to say that I don't like the trend of "we'll just tack on multiplayer or singleplayer so we can complete the checklist of creating games." It's completely okay for a developer to just focus on a singleplayer game or a multiplayer game. You don't want to play a multiplayer? Sorry, but too bad. Call of Duty started as a PC game so maybe I have a different perspective. I bought CoD 1 & 2 for the multiplayer. The campaign was a nice addition but I don't think I played through them more than twice.
I don't think AAA game budgets need to be as high as they are and tacking on components just to check a generic box on the game features list is unnecessary.
You seem to be okay with BF being a multiplayer only experience so what's wrong with a new IP being multiplayer only? This game is called Titanfall not Call of Duty. Even though Respawn is comprised of industry vets it's still a new and small studio and coming from the co-founder himself budgets were a factor.
Quote:
Titanfall is a multiplayer-only experience. Respawn Entertainment co-founder Vince Zampella told GamesIndustry International that keeping the focus on multiplayer battles was a deliberate response to player habits and studio size.
Respawn comprises about 60 developers, and devoting months of their work to single-player missions most players blow through in minutes just doesn't make sense, Zampella said.
"And how many people finish the single-player game? It's a small percentage. It's like, everyone plays through the first level, but 5 percent of people finish the game," he said. "Really, you split the team. They're two different games. They're balanced differently, they're scoped differently. But people spend hundreds of hours in the multiplayer experience versus as little time as possible rushing to the end [in single-player]. So why do all the resources go there? To us it made sense to put it here. Now everybody sees all those resources, and multiplayer is better. For us it made sense."

I was speaking to my personal preference that I would prefer a campaign if I was going to spend $60 on a game, which is why I am not likely to be rushing out to buy Titanfall tomorrow.
In the bigger scheme I was critiquing the decision on a marketing basis since this is the game that is supposed to catch the XBox One up to the PS4, and be the system seller.
IMO casual gamers still prefer a campaign and story, even if it was just tacked on, and if they hear it is a multiplayer only game it may turn them off to a purchase or make them decide just to stick with the 360 version.
Battlefield was largely a multiplayer only experience on the PC but when they expanded to the console market they decided to tack on a campaign to help with sales to more casual gamers.
Of course hardcore gamers and traditional PC fans will have no issue with multiplayer only games, but if you want a game to be a system seller you usually will try to reach out to the more casual audience.

I am not trying to pick on you this issue just happens to be a pet peeve of mine. I fully expect that you'll see more of this kind of thing as developers look for ways to cut costs. At the end of the day Titanfall is being developed by 60 people. BF4 was developed by over 300 and the Call of Duty series has over 500 people working on their various titles at any given time.

A good write up on Engadget about titanfall Plus it talks about Forza 5 And how Its uses Microsofts Azure.

While you were busy running along walls and throwing missiles back at your opponents during the Titanfall beta, countless data centers across the world were making sure that each AI-controlled Titan bodyguard had your back. Much of the frenetic action in Respawn Entertainment's debut game rests on one thing: Microsoft's Azure cloud infrastructure.

It's repeated in the article comments and all over Neogaf (as usual) but their comment about the AI is a little strange knowing the frame rate dips and screen tearing.
Because Titanfall's advanced AI is handled by the Azure servers, your Xbox's or PC's innards can be used to achieve more detailed graphics and the game's silky-smooth frame rate.
The Beta has shown that the AI isn't exactly very smart and can't be using that many resources at all.
Many look at Titanfall as the first true next-gen game, offering an experience we haven't seen on last-generation hardware (think: the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360).
Microsoft cancelled the 360 version of Titanfall?

As far as I know the 360 version comes out on the 25.
The A.I gets smarter that's what Azure is all about.

Yeah, it's more a reflection of what people & commenters think of the article/the author getting called out in gaming forums.

For those Master Race owners, logging into EAs website in your browser while using a Mexican DNS or VPN lets you buy the game for 500 pesos (~$45 CDN).
So, you know, save yourself some cash.

Can add to cart, but can't actually check out as it rejects my credit card presumably because it is based in Canada.
EDIT: Actually might have just been processing timeout type errors, I managed to use paypal after paypal failed a few times. Nice.

Giantbomb Quick Look for Titanfall is Live right now:
http://www.giantbomb.com/
The game crashed initially at the start of the feed but it is to be expected for a new release I guess. My collector's edition hasn't arrived yet but I hope they show that they fixed those frame rate drops.
