Strombo is awful. He just seems like he's trying to hard at everything he does.
Jeff Marek is fantastic though. I love MvsW podcast

Strombo is versatile and talented so he should have no trouble adapting to the new job.
I've never been a big fan of his CBC talk show, because whenever I've watched he seemed to be sucking up to his guest, and it just wasn't interesting. Nor do I think he was well-prepared. But my sample size is small.
My hunch: If he's not doing player interviews, and is instead opening shows, introducing segments, doing features and leading expert panels ie: hot stove he'll be just fine.
Much depends on how Rogers decides to format and present its broadcasts.

It's just a different style, he gets the guest to talk past cliche'd interview answers into something more interesting.

Stombo is the poster boy for CBC mediocrity. He was an absolute total failure on his 2 stints down to the States.
Micheal Ignatieff was more successful in the same role.

Stroumbo is a great choice I think. Especially if they have really good hockey analyst on his panel with him.

Well, good thing his 8 episode run on CNN to American audiences doesn't have a whole lot to do with his new gig as host of Hockey Night in Canada produced by Rogers and airing on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
I don't know, maybe you're right, maybe Micheal Ignatieff should be host of HNIC. You've exhibited such sound judgement in the past.

Personally, I'd like to see a breakdown of Strombo vs Ignatieff Grit Index. Then we would really see who's the best.

I don't think there is any question that Strombo is more truculent than Ignatieff

Strombo is great. One of the best interviewers out there. He does suck up to his guests a bit however. Maclean needs to stay as well
The best panel possible would be Strombo hosting with Stock, Hrudey, and Friedman. Leave Don and Ron doing their thing and get rid of Healy, Shannon etc.
Kypreos, Doug Maclean, and Weekes aren't as bad as everyone says but they had better not be the go to guys. Hockeycentral at noon is pretty good

I like George. He's a likeable personality and a good journalist. I think he'll do a fine job.

Ron McLean will move to Sundays and will be doing story based reports?
Good move. McLean is at his best when hosting and story telling. When he ventures into commentary he's hard to take. I think George will grow into the role but there isn't a better host in Canada then McLean.

Never liked him. This might just dunk HNIC into the "avoid watching" pile for me.

Wow, MacLean was only 26 when he started on HNIC.

So the host total screen time make up maybe 15 minutes of the 2.5 hour broadcast and that makes you not watch hockey? Did he kick your dog?

Only if he gets a better/bigger gig IMO. His credibility is pretty high right now
