Planes have been mistakenly or purposely shot down by missiles before.
For NK to have done that, they'd either have to shoot it down over China, or else send the missile through Chinese airspace to shoot it down over the South China Sea. Those Kims are crazy, but not that crazy.
One of the reasons I personally don't think it's terrorism, is that you'd think someone would've claimed responsibility by now. People typically commit these acts to get attention towards their agenda. Dying in anonymity seems a little pointless.
I could be misremembering, but it was weeks or months before anyone took credit for 9/11, wasn't it? I think that in the modern world, you don't really need to let anyone know why you tried to take down a plane unless it's for some reason other than the one that everyone would assume.

Also, although many fingers have been pointed, I don't think anyone has officially claimed responsibility for the recent mass stabbing in China.
Also....if it were a missile or bombing, I would question why they didn't wait until over a city instead of the ocean (they could have potentially gained further casualties on the ground)
No way Vietnam is shooting missiles at aircraft, especially coming from the south.
Isn't vietnam not an aggressive country anymore?

Thank you for everything CP. Good memories and thankful for everything that has been done to help me out. I will no longer take part on these boards. Take care, Go Flames Go.
Submersion and certain extreme g-loads will set off the ELT.
Just did an ELT operational test on Friday. The g-load test is always the fun part. We've got all kinds of warning stickers on our test ELT's (406 MHz) because if they're on for more than about 10 seconds, they'll start transmitting to the satellites... we'd prefer Nav Canada and search/rescue not come to our building.

Funny you say that. The conspiracy theories are already abundant.
And I don't care if you believe the plane was teleported to planet Xenothan by the alien overlord Queen Elizabeth, or if you are completely anti any conspiracy theory.
I'm not here to get into a tinfoil hat debate. Just sharing what's out there cause some of it is somewhat i̶n̶t̶e̶r̶e̶s̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ entertaining
If you roll your eyes when you see "Conspiracy Theory" don't click on the spoiler tag and skip this.
One talks about how much of a coincidence it is that CNN had an interview with the missing co-pilot just days before the incident:
One talks about the similarities of this and the Bonjika Plot where...
Quote:
The Bojinka plot was a planned large-scale three phase Islamist attack by Ramzi Yousef and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed[when?]. The attack would involve a plot to assassinate Pope John Paul II, an air bombing of 11 airliners flying from Asia to the United States[1] and their approximately 4,000 passengers, and a proposal to crash a plane into the CIA's headquarters in Fairfax County, Virginia
Quote:
Test bombs: mall, theater, 747 airliner:
On December 1, Shah placed a bomb under a seat in the Greenbelt Theatre in Manila to test what would happen if a bomb exploded under an airline seat. The bomb went off, injuring several patrons.[7]
On December 11, 1994, Yousef built another bomb, which had one tenth of the power that his final bombs were planned to have, in the lavatory of an aircraft. He left it inside the life jacket under his seat (26 K) and got off the plane when it arrived in Cebu. Yousef had boarded the flight under the assumed name of Arnaldo Forlani, using a false Italian passport. The aircraft was Philippine Airlines Flight 434 on a Manila to Narita route, stopping partway at Cebu. Yousef had set the timer for four hours after he got off the aircraft.
And one, which of all the theories is the closest I would say to being considered believable is:
Quote:
The plane was hijacked and enroute to China. It was shot down by the chinese military to prevent the airplane from entering Chinese airspace.
The situation is being covered up for purely nationalist issues, and does not involve any western entities. China has been dealing with a string of terrorist issues recently, most recent being the kun Ming massacre. It is in the ccps best interest to keep such events covered up both locally and abroad.
There's tons out there, and I won't post them all because I know how much CP loves conspiracy theories, but I thought some, even if not believable, were good time killers.
I'm pretty confused how they haven't even managed to find any debris yet. They have 20+ planes and 40 some boats, and they have the last approximate location on radar?

The Gulf of Thailand is approx 320,000 km2. That's almost exactly half of Alberta.
I wonder the same (how have they not found anything yet) and am not sure how weather, wind and sea currents affected the debris, but am sure it's not a super easy task.
