I hope hartley starts the kids line against the Canucks. And the kids jump whoever torts puts out there the same way the mcgrattan line did... Even if it's Byron versus Kesler. Show the Canucks that we have grit up and down the line up.

I hope Hartley just starts McGrattan. Just Brian McGrattan. Without a stick.

I still remember when mcgratten gave the flames an 8 min pk for beating up like 3 oilers and their goalie that was awesome

I'm still waiting for the news tomorrow morning.

"Flames recall Shane O'Brien"
"Flames extend contract offer to Trevor Gillies"
"Kevin Westgarth to play despite injury; Will take opening faceoff"

Won't even need to fight come to think of it. Gillies and McGrattan's beards alone would scare the 'Nucks into turtling anyway.

Strangely I dont remember that. But it sounds like something Grats would do.

When Brian McGrattan is on the ice the safest place to be is in the penalty box.

Gillies just needs to stand up and 'be intense' at the Canuck's bench.

Hartley rolls up a magazine. Rolls it into a bullhorn. Hands to Gillies.

Gillies ends game with 0:00 of icetime and a thoroughly cowed Vancouver bench.

Glad it's just a Forever a Flame and not a jersey retirement at least. I hope a long string of forgettable players where #25 for many years to come. Or even better, a future superstar wears it and eventually has it retired and nobody ever associates the number with Nieuwendyk again.

Hopefully the guys who are playing tonight put on a good show. I'm looking forward to tuning in at home (after the ceremony) and seeing the boys in the retro jerseys.

Go Flames Go!
I agree. He was a great player but what he did was a slap in the face to the organization and the fans. Its kind of cool to honour him in a way because he was one of my all time favourites but I think the ceremony should be called Forever a Jerk!

We don't even need to offer Gillies a contract for that. Pretty sure you can have whoever you want behind the bench as a coach.

Get him a cab from Abby to Vancouver, put a suit on him and call him the Truculence Coach.

So, Harvey has gone to the airport to pick up a special guest for tonight's game: http://instagram.com/p/lQWkHLs8O0/

The KLM flight from Amsterdam just landed...I hope it's carrying a certain guy who used to wear #12...and not the one who was traded for Nieuwendyk.

^ I didn't think of that.

I thought he was off to pick up the Stanley Cup and all the other hardware coming in for tonight.

And I didn't think of that.

There's a flight from Toronto around this time too, so it could be that. Was the Cup in Detroit for Lidstrom's ceremony last night?

Looks like it says "Stanley", so I guess that is what it is.

It stinks but that seems to be the way it ended for a lot of guys from the Cup era.

In the players' defense the Flames ownership at the time was incredibly cheap. Every veteran who left made substantially more money with their next team.
