I could be wrong though

Yup they're a 30 year old frame and we need them to last 50 to 60 years.

Would you drive a 60 year old car?

They are but they're a hell of a lot better than our old Leo's. They're upgradeable to 2A4 as well, improved armour but with the fiscal climate these days I doubt it gets done.

I'm not going to quote my post, but the role of Sarge was played in my memories by R Lee Emery

Equipment for the military is a great discussion, but I am not sure we should be clogging up this thread anymore.

Perhaps a new thread of a mod split?

Could be wrong but I think our old Leo's were the ones where they had it basically hang a portable AC unit off the top of the turret to keep the conditions livable for the boys inside. The leased ones were like Cadillacs with all the toys I think.

I remember when I was in the infantry, and I got all cocky when we talked about fighting tanks. You know I'll just kill it with this nice Tow or LAWS rocket.

My Instructor looked at me like I was ######ed and asked me a simple question. What's the range of a Tow missile. I muttered about 4000 meters.

He then nodded and said what's the range of a main tank gun

I whined, come on sarge, that involves math and match is for girls

He slapped me across the head and yelled 8 to 10000 meters. So twice the distance and he can shoot 10 rounds a minute at you while yer crying and trying to wire guide a missile under fire.

Yer a moron Crunch, now go dig a latrine.

Love it! Great insight and knowledge CC.

Which regiment were you with?

M72 made you feel manly.

Carl G, that was an older and manlier weapon, not even close.

Yeah, I don't disagree, but personally even firing an FN made me feel manly so the standards were low.

If only there was a way........TOW: Tube Launched, Optically Tracked, Wire Guided

In short you look through an optic site and "drive" the projectile onto the target.

Yeah the LAWS was much shorter ranged, I think it was about 600 meters at best and had that terrible basically iron site.

It was the ultimate fire and forget weapon. Stand up, make yourself a big target and forget about life.
