I think Leach is now a coach or scout and he's not the first hockey person to say these kinds of things about him.

This kid has special talent, Burke better not fork this up.
I believe Leach is/was a Flames scout.

Wow, I thought this was the 'Fricken' Monahan thread. Turns out its a 'Fricken' Gaudreau thread.

Gaudreau should play in the NHL.
Gaudreau should play with Monahan.
Monahan is awesome.
/Thread back on track.

That's because Gaudreau is elusive, you never know where he's going to be.

Yes, that is a very intelligent and thoughtful post, as are all calgary4life's posts. There are dozens more thoughtful rebuttals to this argument over in the 'John Frickin Gaudreau' thread in the Backburner board. Pages and pages worth of it, actually.

Sorry if I hurt your feelings with a poo emoticon, AcGold.

Anyhow, Monahan currently sits 8th in points & 3rd in goals amongst rookie skaters. What kind of streak will it take over the final 20 games or so for him to be considered for the Calder trophy?

Seeing as Mackinnon just broke Gretzkys record for most consecutive games with a point as a rookie (13 straight) I think its out of reach at this point unless Mackinnon gets hurt and Monahan produces at 2 PPG

Still think he should be considered a candidate but no chance he wins.

Most consecutive games with points as an 18 year old I thought it was...?

In preparation for all the incredible goals Monahan and Gaudreau are going to score together, someone with photoshop skills should turn this into a "The Ghost and The Money" poster:

Yes, I think Mackinnon has it all but locked up, but it would be a great boost for Monahan if he was nominated. He seems to have picked up the pace recently with a couple of multi-point games.

The play of Monahan and some of the recent call-ups has been a very welcome distraction from the reality of beginning a rebuilding phase.
I look forward to following Sean's development into a top center!
This kid just seems to get it.

Correct - they didn't consider Gretzky a rookie because he had played a year in the WHA.

Then a couple years later, they awarded the Calder to Peter Stastny, a 26 year old, 8 year veteran of the Czech national team.

Bad blood with the WHA was the main factor I think.

And Sergei Makarov won it as a 30 year old. Gretzky did play in the WHA as a 17 year old though and was 18 for his first NHL season, scoring 137 points. Not too shabby.

Kane is 2-3 inches taller, and 25 pounds heavier than Gaudreau. And from what I've seen, Kane is a better skater.

One thing most of the midgets who stick in the NHL have is legs like tree trunks. Fleury and St. Louis are built like fire hydrants. Heck, even Nathan Gerbe is almost 180 lbs. In the NHL you can't dance around everyone on the ice like you can against the pilons in college hockey. You're going to get leaned on. So you need those powerful legs and a solid centre of gravity. That'll take time to develop. And best to spend that time in the AHL.

Pretty much everyone challenges the stats on Kane - there is no way he is over 180 lbs

5'9" and 170-175 lbs is probably closer to the truth

The Blackhawks listing Kane as 5'11 always gives me a chuckle. Teammate Andrew Shaw isn't the biggest guy around but they list Kane as taller and heavier then him.

I've walked past him several times. He's likely 5'10, 5'11.
