Button and his scouts deserve credit for the picks as this was their draft but Feaster deserves a little credit for going straight off their list and not meddling.

No. You can't create an emergency via trade, and MacDonald was recalled due to the trade of Berra. Also, Emergency recall is like for like and the player coming in is tied to the player who is out. So when Wideman returns, Wotherspoon goes down. There's no option for the Flames in that regard.
Incidentally, Burke is cheating the intent of the four call-ups after the deadline rule while showing how stupid it is. He's deliberately left the Flames with 20 players so that any loss becomes an emergency recall.

The Erixon trade is looking like Feasters best deal due to the quality of the draft picks.
Perhaps the Iggy and Bouw trades can be salvaged if Poirer and Klimchuck turn out to be great players

That's to come in the future though with Wotherspoon. As you say, he'll probably be paired with Smid and get 5 to 10 minutes of ice time.
|
Why mess up with D's success recently? I like that Brodie is playing in the 1st pairing with a two-way D Giordano. Butler seems to be playing well ever since they put him with Russell and I think Wotherspoon will fit well with the veteran Ladislav Smid. With Wideman out, it means the Butler-Russell ice time will increase tonight.

Just a small word of warning. Wothespoon is still prone to boneheaded mistakes at times. I'm sure it'll only be magnified in the NHL. However, he's been steadily raising his game this past month and a half or so. The Flames are getting him at the peak of his game.

Shhhhhh. Don't warn the masses. They need a proper chance to completely write him off after making a mistake or two.

Good for the Kid, but not sure what all the excitement is about, he's not exactly lighting the lamp down there!

It might be a case of trying to do too much in Abby and when he gets to the NHL he'll keep it simple.
Not uncommon to see guys paly a smarter game when they get to the NHL for a multitude of reasons, including the fact that if you make a bone-headed play, you'll get eaten alive.

That is not his game. A lot of fans will be under-whelmed because he does nothing exciting.
He is just a really solid, stay at home defenseman. It takes time and a body of work to come to appreciate his game.

I would like it if he plays 12 or 13 minutes and we don't notice him at all.

He's a defensive defenceman. His job is not to light the lamp.

I think the excitement is about seeing a fresh face up on the team and seeing a kid get a chance. He might not be 'lighting the lamp' in the AHL, but he definitely earned this shot and we should all be proud of Ward and the staff in Abbotsford for doing such a great job grooming our young guys. Not only are they coming up as hard working players, but all their attitudes are just top notch. I honestly can't remember the last time the Flames had such a great energy from top to bottom, not for many moons.

Exactly. Just as long as he plays his game he will be fine. He's steady. Not too many mistakes. Good first pass out of the zone. Decent size.
I'm excited to see how he does.

Don't worry, next year at this time he will have 20 goals and 60 assists. It's his first year in the pros so give him time to magically get his scoring touch back.

We have enough guys that can score from the back end. What we need is a few guys that can compliment those scorers and play a very sound fundamental defensive game and lay the body on the opposition. We need to develop two or three guys in the Scott Stevens mold, guys that make the opposition wary of crossing our blueline and have their heads on a swivel. Wotherspoon isn't a banger, but he plays a very solid defensive game. Hopefully we see Ramage up before the end of the year too. He's more of a banger and likes to lay people out. Ramage and Wotherspoon give me hope for our blueline.

Don't forget Sieloff, he's far and away the best banger of the three.

Be nice to have connections on here to both Brodie and Wotherspoon and many more, hopefully!

My sister is Heather Liscano! Not much of an insider connection though
