I'll be in the minority saying this...but Butler has sure come along way. Unless a team wants him in a package I think the Flames should make all efforts to keep him.
- For the msot part he's solid on the bottom pairing.
- At times he can be moved up when needed.
- He seems to be a real team player. Last night was not the first time he fought or got physical to defend someone.

Hudler and Wideman both left the game, Colborne came back.

I should also point out, even though it's been said a hundred times already.
Ortio's all around game was great, but his rebound control was most impressive.
Have a much better feeling about our goaltending moving ahead.

Gio is a +4 averaging over 25 minutes per night on the third worst goal differential team in the league. I know +/- is a flawed stat, but that's impressive.

I know it's only been 2 games, but Ortio looks better than Berra already.

Hudler definitetly no, but Colborne took a shift for sure. Wideman was also out in third with what Kerr said was an upper body injury.

Agreed 100%. Every single facet of his game has been unbelievable all year. From goals and assists to plus/minus, to just about every advanced stat under the sun, Gio is near the top of the league. All playing for 27th place, offensively-challenged club. Hats off to the captain.

I agree with you. He still needs to get more physical and much more assertive with traffic in front of the net, but he has come a long way this season.
Good on him.

Ortio is already a top 20 goalie in the NHL

I can see Burke doing everything in his power NOT to bring Sven up.
He wants him to be hungry for training camp next year.

Its funny how good Gio is, you can tell it's him because he's the one d-man that almost never makes a mistake. He's so fluid and smart out there.

Just incase someone hadn't mentioned it yet, Ortio got some NHL.com recognition as the third star of the night!

Giordano's play is kind of bitter sweet for me, and kind of falls in line with the historical timing of having really good players on the team when we are floundering as a franchise.
Giordano has been flat out awesome this year. I didn't ever think that he would be as good as he is. The Team Canada consideration only solidified that. But it really is too bad that he is having the best years of his career when the team is in rebuild mode.
Almost like the franchise could never capitalize on having the best goalie in the game, and one of the best players in the game for a period of time.
Kind of a debbie downer of a post, but it sure is fun watching Gio now. Maybe his leadership will pay off in spades down the road.
