Well, in the black on all transactions. Barely, but tried a few things and seem to be working out for the time being.

So, I have no real clue what I'm doing, so I need some advice.
When do you guys consider selling a stock? Is it a minimum % gain/loss? Is it gut feeling? How do take your profits and move on?

It totally depends what kind of investor or trader you want to be. I assume you do not invest in real life?
There are many different strategies from technical to fundamental or both combined. For me I use a few different strategies. I have my value long term growth stocks like V, IRE, GTAT, EZPM in my portfolio. I also play momentums stocks like hoping to catch big runners and then getting out when the technical signals tell me to.

no, i don't really invest in real life, but i should. i really want to create a basic but solid diverse portfolio, but don't really know how to balance all the different ways to look at it.
i have not been to a financial advisor in a long time, and don't really feel comfortable handing my money over to somebody to manage it for me.
so far, i seem drawn to mining stocks, gold and silver and a sprinkling of diamond, which is pretty risky. really need to spread it out.

Yes you should learn how to invest, otherwise you will work for money for the rest of your life.
I would recommend The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham if you want to learn how to value invest. Also check out www.buffettsbooks.com I found the info here extremely useful and easy to understand when I first started. The best value investing geared website is www.gurufocus.com
If you want to to learn how to trade stocks, check out a book How To Make Money in Stocks by William O'Neil. He uses a theory called CANSLIM and it really works! His website is www.investors.com
Those 2 books were really helpful getting me started. Anything by Peter Lynch is also a good read.

Covered my short position on Blackberry today for a small profit. Just tried a small transaction when I first shorted it, in case I was doing it wrong, but everything worked out. Will experiment some more with other stocks. And probably Blackberry again, haha.
Using a dollar cost average strategy on my other stocks when then take a bit of a tumble, seems to be paying off so far.

I'll give it a few more days so more people have a chance to see my post before I go ahead and set up the game. I think it could be a great learning experience for everyone. I've only recently gotten interested in stocks, and being able to do something like this with a community of people I know and have a place to discuss it would be a great learning curve for me.
I'm open to any suggestions, really. More money, less money. Just let me know.
So far I have on the list.
EDIT: We'll just let anyone from CP join. Late entries will be okay too.
EDIT AGAIN.
If this link works it should send everyone to the proper location so they can join from there.

EDIT: http://www.investopedia.com/simulato...listgames.aspx
If it doesn't, search for a game called 'Calgarypuck.'

Just giving this a bump cause I don't want to go searching for it.
Maybe we should throw it in the game/drafts forum?
