Under the new CBA, teams can retain up to 50% of a player's salary for the remaining life of the deal (same percentage every year).

Wouldnt surprise me. If Vancouver offloads a few more vets and starts rebuilding then I could see them leave.
The window has slammed shut in their faces this season.

Doesn't it make more sense for the Canucks to trade the Sedins to a contender so they'd have a shot at a cup if they don't want to play for a rebuilding team? I don't see why they'd just retire outright. If Gillis really wanted to go full-on rebuild he'd send them to Detroit tomorrow.
At this point it seems unlikely they get traded until they're in Iginla territory, though.

Just how much potential do a 26 and a 31 year old have? I know you Oiler fans have this potential mantra tattooed on your foreheads, and mention it like a disclaimer with every word uttered about your team, but get real, there is no potential here, except for the two goaltenders to get substantially worse because they are playing on a substantially worse team.

Why wouldn't he be happy? Luongo is coming over to pump up his tires.

I don't know about you guys, but I'd take Fasth + Scrivens over Berra + Ramo now and for the future any day of the week.

I doubt that any team is going to want to take both of them on, and I doubt that the Sedin's are going to waive to go to separate teams. The Canucks are going to be stuck watching their painful decline for a long time.

Here are the cap penalties from Roberto Luongo's contract for the Canucks if he retires early. Could be really ugly

Oh, and you're paying $1M/year from now to the end of time.
I really though Lowe and MacTavish were the only contenders to take the alltime throne as biggest moron GM from the longtime holder Mike Milbury, but Mike Gillis is really emerging as a contender. He's so laughably bad, he should be a panelist on Sportsnet.
|
That's what happens when a top 20 goalie has the contract of a top 3 goalie and would've likely cleared waivers.

If the bigot didn't abandon his team for a year and move to a bunker in Colorado he might be in a better position.

TBH I don't think any of those 4 goalies are good enough to win you a Stanley Cup in the future.

My assessment of the tending situation:
Oilers goalies: They are who they are. NHL average at best, maybe Fasth goes on a hot streak now and again. They do have Brossoit, who as a "horizon" guy is mediocre.
Flames goalies: I have no faith in Ramo being anything other than what he is. Same is true of Berra. However, in Ortio they have a guy who could make the jump to "good NHL goalie" in the next couple of years, and in Gillies, they have a "horizon" guy who is better than Brossoit in terms of potential.
Canucks goalies: Lack is good now, has a floor lower than Fasth and Scrivens, but probably not lower than the Flames' tandem. However, he has more upside than all of them. Markstrom could be a total bust or he could be Kari Lehtonen, great upside, high risk. Ericsson has NHL upside as well, but is basically a poor man's lack - similar upside, less likely to reach it.
So, Canucks have best upside, Oilers have lowest risk, Flames are somewhere in the middle.

Don't agree with this at all. There are a number of teams that would take on both of them.

HA, no way the canucks get traded. There is no way they will go to separate teams. And who would want to take on those train wreck contraxcts

cap could be 100m+ by then
it might not be a huge factor and the only real big issues are if he retires in the last 2 years
