There are backups that are better than Lack.

They didn't get rid of it fully, they're still paying part of it for the next 8 years.

Lack is better than Scrivens, Halak, Ward, Holtby, Pavelec, Montoya, Varlamov right now?
Goalies outside of the top 19 in save percentage: Bobrovski, Lundquist, Howard, Bernier, Miller, Smith, Thomas
Goalies outside of the top 19 in GAA: same
I'd take any of those guys over a goalie with less than 10 wins at the trade deadline.

And on top of it, they'll pay a portion of Luongos salary for 8 years.

Plus about 8M in recapture penalties (or however that ends up working).

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 4m
Quite a day with Luongo on move to FLA. Convinced this more related to fallout from non-start in Heritage than reason for the non-start.

|
With Kesler your forward depth is marginally better than the Flames and when you look at prospects base its not even close. Without Kessler you have the Sedins and nobody and I assume Gillis would get one quality NHL forward in return but man are you guys thin on offensive skill throughout the organization. You are probably bottoming out whether you choose to believe it or not.

So they basically trade Luongo and Schenider for 20 cents on the dollar, because of two goalie controversies they themselves created. And their fans wonder why they've never won anything? Please...

35% of salary retained? Lol!
EDIT: if true not so bad
Nick Kypreos @RealKyper 24s
15 percent is what I hear on what #Canucks will pick up on the Luongo to #Panthers deal.

Sigh. So much for making the boldest goalie trade of the day...

I hope Luongo retires early to nail Vancouver with a nice big recapture penalty.

Yes... this will be a good chance for Lu to stick it to the Canucks one final time.
Estimated recapture penalties for 2021-22 if Longo retires in 2021: #Canucks $7.7M and #Panthers zero. (Per Capgeek)
