Icon59 Ducks trade Viktor Fasth to the Oilers for 2014 5th and 2015 3rd

Eric Stephens @icemancometh
Also hearing @Dustinpenner25 to Washington is real in addition to Viktor Fasth heading to Edmonton.

Kevin Weekes ‏@KevinWeekes 8m
Also hearing Fasth could be on move, perhaps to @EdmontonOilers

update:
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Viktor Fasth to Edmonton also a done deal.

Wow. Edmonton is taking a real scatter-gun approach to goaltending.

Bold move Cotton. Bold move.

Edmonton just throwing assets around for goalies when their defence is and always has been their biggest weakness.

Why acquire 4 goaltenders in less than a calendar year?

Very nice move by the Oilers. Fasth and Scrivenns as a goalie combination actually gives them a couple of nice pieces that could end up being their number 1 and potentially a very good 1 - 2 if both play well. Also sets up good competition for the role.

Anyway, if it goes down and dependent on what goes the other way..... MacT may have actually vastly improved them in net.

To be honest, I think that might be the right approach. The best way to do it would be drafting the goalies, not in the first round but a goalie here or there in the later rounds, one every draft and a half or so... but the days of getting bonafide number one seem to be over.

Have a 1/1a in the regular season and ride the hot guy into playoffs.

Address the Goaltending now. Fasth and Scrivens makes a decent combo going forward.

Now to address their D. Which I hope they cannot do.

Because it's an incredibly important postion and they sucked there. Like Calgary with Centers, you really can't have too many if you don't have a slam dunk candidate. Just good odds management by the Oilers by loading up on guys that could prove to be there number 1 given slam dunk #1 aren't easy to come by.

Only issue with goalies (versus centers) is they don't return as much value generally when you start to move them out.

Yep - Fasth and Scrivenns are a more proven combo than Ramo and Berra. I also wonder what they gave up.

Bob Stauffer @Bob_Stauffer
If the Oilers have acquired Fasth my guess is they have a deal for Ilya Bryzgalov

Fasth has played 30 NHL games with a good team. 25 were good last year, 5 this year have been terrible. Pretty similar to Ramo.

Smid ditch was likely silly, but wait until we see what they gave up for Fasth (if it happens) and what they get back for Bryz......... sum of the parts might not be to bad at the end of the day.......but lets hope it is

And apparently it's a 4th................. Will be interesting to do a recap on what went out and what came into the Oilers to land them with Fasth and Scrivens goalie tandum.
