You make some fair points, however I feel that the fact Cammy is a UFA at the end of the year is a huge deal. Whoever picks him up is likely only going to use him as a rental, and then he will go get overplayed somewhere as a UFA. I don't think the Flames will get even close to the return Buffalo did.

At this point id would be happy with a 1st round pick or a 2nd round pick + decent prospect for Cammalleri.

I would think if you dropped either Hackett or Larsson from the equation and got rid of the 2nd for 4th round swap you would be getting close to what Cammalleri is worth. You also have to remember the 1st was in last years draft which was a very strong draft compared to what this years is supposed to be. Which would leave something like:Cammalleri for a 1st (Forsure in my mind)and a prospect along the lines of a Hackett or Larrson.

I wonder what it would take to get Brett Connolly out of Tampa Bay??Seems like he has fallen out of favour in their organization,he is 6'2 plays RW/C I believe and might be just needing a fresh start.Would Tampa do??
Cammy
for
TB's 2014 1st & Connolly
Or would we have to add to this??
The other team i could see Cammy going to would be Anaheim
For their 1st and one of Smith-Pelly or Kyle Palmieri

Assuming TB were willing to move Connolly, I don't think you get him and a 1st. Maybe a 2nd, or a 3rd.
Not a huge Connolly fan, but we need RW prospects badly. I would be happy acquiring him and then putting him with Baertschi and see what happens.

The part that makes Cammalleri more attractive is his 16 goals and 29 points in his last 26 playoff games.
The fact that he is a UFA is a bonus in that you can get him in and make you a playoff threat.... maybe win an extra round or two and don't have to mess up your current core to pay him next year.
He is an ideal playoff rental...... The best one on the market...... well since Iginla :0

Pretty sure Pominville had more value but these things fluctuate depending on the actual market. How many buyers, how many sellers, how many assets are on the market etc. But Pominville is simply a better player than Cammalleri at a more important position.

I am thinking it might be Mike Hoffman and a 2nd for Cammy, Ottawa could use the top 6 guy

I am as a big of a flames fan as anyone but I think a lot of people are over valuing our players. If Penner is only worth a 4th and Macdonald from the
Isles can't get you more than what they got I think it's a pipe dream to think we can turn Carmi into a 1st +. You might argue his value might be similar to Penner's (maybe even less depending what teams are looking for) The reality is he is a small one dimensional player who isn't doing what he is good at particularly well. I cringe when I hear there are 4 scouts from teams xyz in attendance because if they are watching what I am watching they certainly wouldn't be motivated by his play the last 15 games or so. I would argue he has actually been one of our worse forwards during that stretch despite getting lots of ice time and opportunities to play with good players. In the words of Kevin O leary - "stop the madness".

If you get offered a 1st round pick for Cammalleri at this point, you take it and RUN.

I dont think so...
Right now, Vanek as a UFA and what NYI is asking for him at this point is ALOT scarier than Cammi.
People know Cammi is going to get somewhere between 5-5.5 on the open market next year.
GM's may be looking at a 1st + another mid pick, + 2 prospects for Vanek and then be looking at him demanding $7.5+ mil a season for atleast 3 years on the open market...
I think Cammi is going to start looking like a real viable alternative very shortly and demand is going to increase real quick with teams realizing Vanek isnt an option.
All it takes is for one GM to realize they wont get Vanek, Moulson, or Gaborik and think, I should pull the trigger on Cammi before anyone else does.
The big picture is that there is time left and not every team is going to get Vanek.

This is Feaster-esque deadline panic.

Size, durability, contract status, and quality of previous season are all factors. Pominville was coming off 30g 73 point season and could be counted upon as a 20+ goal 60+ point guy. Cammy? Durability is a question mark.

Cammalleri has a couple things going for him. He is a pure rental and some teams value that. Generally, those are teams that are trying to make a push over the top to win the Cup. The other thing he has going for him is that his relatively recent playoff performance is still fresh on many minds. I think a contender looking for one last piece to go all in for the Cup will potentially give up a lot for Cammalleri. I thought the Pomenville deal last year was absolutely crazy so I doubt anyone will give that much but it wouldn't suprise me if we saw something like a 1st & 3rd, or 1st and middling prospect, or 1st & 2nd and a bad contract.
