Thought 12 years a Slave was one of the best of the year, love the win. Not poor MMF at all. Look back at my posts regarding this movie over the past year. I posted info about 12 years a Slave when pre-production started. I'm a massive fan of Steve McQueen, Michael Fassbender and Chiwitel Ejifor.

Shoutout to Her for its screenplay Oscar as well, you don't usually watch a movie and think "dang this thing needs to win for original screenplay" when you're done, but that's the first thing I thought.

I think it's more that it wasn't a terribly important film, just an very impressive one, while 12 Years is crucial. The notion that Gravity would steal the recognition of that importance led people to pre-emptively resent it.
But all's well now in the jungle.
