Another good thing is that the decision was made for us. So regardless of what happens we'll never have to look back and say "dammit". Monahan was the obvious pick for us, and so for it's working out just fine.

Bump this thread in December, when Monahan is in a sophomore slump, and half of CP is trying to trade him for some other teams' busted prospect.

Much shinier than last year's toy, who has posted identical NHL production to Monahan, but is now in virtually every CP trade proposal because management decided he needs some more AHL time.

Half of that is adding him to proposals to get a better prospect.

Hell, I'd trade Monahan in a second if it was going to get a better prospect in return.

It would be nice to see a few more assist numbers with Mono. Unfortunately the Flames don't have as many finishers available to him as Nichuskin or MacKinnon does.

I think Monahan will never have high assist numbers. He is a finisher and is always going to the net. He's not the type of player to hold on the puck and look for the pass. I think he'd rather just jam the net. I think he can develop into a 40 goal, 25 assist guy.

Do you think he has a chance of making the back to back gold medal winning Canadian Olympic team in 2018?

I think he will have 2 gold medals just like Jarome Iginla when his career is done. Both true warriors of the game.

both true warriors? big statement. Very happy with Monahan in his first year and has been rewarded with his instincts in going to the net and being in the right place at the right time. but far from a warrior. most nights he is not recognizable on the ice, then pots one. First year, much to grow, can he get there, we ALL sure hope so but little premature saying both true warriors IMO. Say what you want about Iggy but as good a whole round player when in Calgary minus the last couple years, scored, assists, fought and had an edge. Not many players have scored 30 goasl a year for 10 years straight. I hope your right!!!

Ha. This thread is pretty much what I thought of when the trade was announced. I was on Team Monahan, but was going to be Ok with Lindholm as a consolation prize. Now we get both. Everyone should be happy!

Interesting that the discussion was that Monahan was better defensively, while Lindholm had much more offensive upside. LOL
