So now Buffalo can turn around and deal Halak for a second rounder if they wanted to. Not bad asset management, trading for UFA's early enough where you still have time to re-trade said player for other prospects/picks.
Not necessarily a huge return right now, but pretty good if they can move Halak for something significant.

Blues will come out OK if they are able to re-sign Miller and/or Ott.

Yeah I can see Stewart flipped now for a 1st maybe? Unless he's a free agent this summer.

Makes a lot of sense.
Buffalo cleans up well in this trade but St. Louis wins this deal, they get the best player hands down. Miller is a stud.
I haven't looked but does St. Louis have a 2014 first? Did Buffalo just want to spread it around into more drafts or do they not like how shallow this years prospect pool is?

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
I know OTT wants Chris Stewart. I know 3-way STL-BUF-OTT deal was discussed this week. I don't know (yet) if it's done or if it will be done

two years in a row the Blues make a major trade without giving up Rattie, Jaskin or Allen
The 1st rounder is the most significant piece given up to upgrade Halak and Stewart to Miller and Ott

Ottawa doesnt have a first round pick, so I doubt that. maybe something later and a prospect like Weircoch /Puempel

Ottawa doesn't have a first rounder this year for what it's worth. Traded it in the Bobby Ryan deal. So just a question if they want to move a possible chance at McDavid.

Blues owner, Tom Stillman tells me the Sabres will make up the difference in the salary between Miller and Halak. #stlblues

I would keep Halak, its no gurantee Enroth transitions to a #1 goalie immediately and having a relatively young fully developed goalie is worth a 2nd or late 1st since they take the longest time to develop

I think the Sabres win this trade hands down. But since there are people who think the Blues won, then that probably means this was a pretty good trade for both teams
