I wouldn't worry about how great or terrible potential-to-trade players are playing right now, since their value does not rise and fall with each passing game like commodities or stocks.
As for the game, it was okay. No surprises that there are big holes on this team, and that they struggles to score especially against a big, skilled, and disciplined team like LA. I thought Otrio earned a passing grade in his first NHL start, and was actually fairly impressive when one considers how young he is. He's not quite 23-years-old, and realistically will continue to develop for at least another two years. Kiprusoff was 24 when he made his NHL debut.

The thing that surprised me last night was Granlund's focus on the defensive side of the game. He played extremely responsible in his own end and boxed the opposing forwards out leading to them not getting much started.
His speed is okay, his defense was decent, his offensive abilities are decent. I think he'll be alright.

For me, the only people that should be untouchable are our high end prospects, Monahan, Giordano, Brodie, Russell (only because we just signed him) and Backlund.
Everyone else, if the price is right, have a nice flight. Keep some vets, but not all of them. Hypothetically, if you are offered the equivalent of 2 firsts for Hudler, but only the equivalent of 2 2nds for Cammalleri, we might be better off moving Hudler and signing Cammy as they fill the same role on this team.
Next year, we are going to have a hard time with finding roster spots for guys like Granlund, Knight, Reinhart, Baertschi, Gaudreau, 1st round pick, etc. Some guys are going to have to go, especially up front.

I'm not against trading Hudler, but I wouldn't re-sign Cammalleri, even if he played for league minimum. I have grown a great hate for his game. He doesn't do anything well any more. He's a poor finisher and doesn't control the puck. His speed is not there and he doesn't have the same try he once had. His usual shift ends up with him losing the puck on a simple play and then throwing a stick check (hook) at someone in an attempt to retrieve it. When that doesn't work he turns and skates back to the bench at 3/4 speed. I don't see how anyone would be interested in this guy, especially a playoff team. It's been four years since Cammalleri had that big playoff run. That guy is long gone and you are getting what you see gliding around the Saddledome ice right now. I wouldn't want that in my lineup. I'd prefer the Flames kept Hudler and went with a youngster than bring back Cammalleri.

Ortio looked solid. Made good saves & has good rebound control. Last season I wrote him off when he went back to Finland, but he's back and posted .917 save % in his first game. That' same helluva lot better than Ramo or Berra did in their debuts!
Granlund got into some decent areas and got clear shots on target. Hard, fast release. Quick was more than a match for him tonight, but he was more than a match for everyone.
I want to see a few more games from both of our new Finnish kids.

Agreed with most of this, but Reto Berra's NHL debut was a 42-of-44 save victory over the defending champs.

If a young goalie isn't ready for the NHL, keeping him up for sh**s & giggles is a good way to set him back. It's the same reason a guy like Wotherspoon has been given the whole season in Abbotsford. The Flames have older goalies in their system who should be used.
And if you don't think losing matters, you haven't been paying attention to Edmonton.

Sure Ortio can fine tune his game in the AHL but hes played really well down there. He needs to see some NHL and figure this game out, make the adjustments. He's already better then Berra so no point in wasting development time on Berra.

Ah yes... Forgot about that. I was thinking of his next game, a .762 vs Minnesota.

It's nice that Ortio's gotten a taste of the action, but I'm sure he'll be back in the AHL once Ramo's healthy.
Burke is an advocate of letting prospects develop in the minors before throwing them to the NHL wolves, from what I can remember.

Probably because overall lack of scoring talent is another problem this team has.

Ugh seriously? They show his first NHL goal and not a single other highlight?
How hard is it to show a few minutes of him crushing people in addition to talking about the man off the ice?
It should have been a tribute to The Tunnel of Death.

Well maybe you should've taken the job.
Agreed though, it seems like whoever put that together, isn't actually a hockey fan or Flames fan, and doesn't understand what made Regehr a valuable player or fan favourite.

I don't know, I thought he just barely touched Quick and the way Quick freaked out, I was thinking Colbourne must have some awesome power.
