Also while the GM builds a team, it's likely the character of the coach and team leaders that transcends through a lineup. To a point anyway, there has to be a line where expected behaviour is trumped by natural behaviour. like when you decide to bite someones finger or pull their hair. so that's probably not an indication of what's deemed acceptable, even in the Vancouver locker room.

Burke signed or drafted Burrows, Cooke and Ruutu with the Canucks so he obviously isn't against the possibility of acquiring such players.

I haven't gotten around to thinking of Patrick Roy as a coach but given the type of things that transpired under his watch as coach in the CHL, I highly doubt that he cares if one of his players is POS. He's considered a POS peraonality wise as well and he's my all-time favourite goalie.

Whatever. I just don't get what you're trying to say. Is it that Quebec produces all the Burrows type players? And they find employment in the NHL just because of a cadre of French Canadian coaches who will forgive anything just because they're French? Just ask NHL coach and fellow Franco Ontarian Claude Julien what he thinks of Alex Burrows. Or was it just a lame drive by smear of Bob Hartley disguised as a lame sweeping generalization about French Canadian players and coaches?

I hate Burrows as much as anyone, but he made a living by being willing to cross the line just enough to make people nuts. For where he started and where he got in hockey is actually quite remarkable. I'm enjoying his struggles as much as anyone, but I doubt any of his on ice antics can solely be attributed to being French Canadian. Although many francophone Canadians are highly competitive and can be described as fiery competitors. Which I think is something Burrows is, he's highly competitive, just does it differently. A guy like Ian Laperriere could be a hard nosed guy and back up his antics. Burrows would be long out of the league if he played that style. Difference is that I felt bad for Laperriere when he suffered some injuries and had to retire as a result. I will laugh with glee the day Burrows can't play in the league any longer, just as I enjoy not having Sean Avery's antics around anymore.

If you're not sure what a poster meant maybe you should ask before you attack? All I said was that Quebec has produced a lot of players like Burrows. You can either take that as a compliment or an attack. No matter how you view him, Burrows is a very successful player in the NHL. The same can be said of Claude Lemieux, a lot more so.

I really hope the league wakes up and removes garbage like this from the game. Especially for repeat offenders like Burrows. His antics really have no business in hockey.
One thing we often hear with agitating players is "I hate him there but would love him if he was on our team!" Guys like C Lemieux, Cooke, Ott, etc.
I think Burrows is an exception to that. More than just an agitating player, he's a goddamn disgrace to the game. No better than the likes of Sean Avery. His past includes diving, hair pulling, biting, and insulting officials. Disgusting.
Canucks fans like to pretend that the bad rep of their team is a thing of the past. Talk to any of them on HFB for example and they proudly proclaim that crap like that was exclusive to 2011. I'm sorry but as long as that team still has someone like Burrows that continues this garbage behaviour, your whole organization is trash to me. Classless garbage.

It is funny that he has done that in the past, and while sticking up for fighting recently, seemed to use players of that ilk as reasons to keep fighting around. Something around: "If it wasn't for fighting, the rats of the league like Ott (think he used his name specifically) would take over the league."
I don't think Burke would sign a player like that now, but who knows. Maybe Burke has seen the light when it comes to these types, or maybe he hasn't. At this point, I will have to assume he doesn't like them as his comments are more recent, and there really isn't a Flames player on the roster that would be considered a 'cheap shot artist' in any way.

Agreed. The hope the league has a no tolerance policy on eye gouging, biting, hair pulling etc. Don't need that in the game.

I think you're wrong there. Burrows, Bieksa, and Kesler are apparently best buddies on the team as they kind of worked their way to the NHL together. As fans, we really have no way of how players feel about each other unless we get some direct quotes.

Thing that annoys me is they do have those rules in place, they just rarely enforce them.

From the article in the Province. Even the home town papers said he pulled Kessel's hair.
|
So I tried to use this article as further evidence to convince a Canucks pal that Burrows pulled some hair and could not find the quote you show. Did they go back and edit it?

It's on the second page of the article:
"Vancouver did manage to escape the first with a lead for only the second time in seven games, but the Canucks did nothing after that — unless you want to count Burrows taking out some frustration against Phil Kessel.
Late in the second period, Burrows got Kessel with a stick to the face, then appeared to cross-checked him high before eventually pulling his hair.
It probably wasn’t the smartest thing we’ve seen from Burrows, still recovering from a broken jaw and needing that shield to protect it."
